Strange "leakage-sound" from engine

Featured Replies

Today I heard a strange sound from my engine. First I tought if was a oil leakage or a water leakage. I stoped, but I couldn't find any oil or water under the car or in the engine.

The sound comes when I accelerate hard, specially uphill. I'm not sure, but I think the sound comes with the turbo.

Generally there is no sound, but like a said, in hard acceleration uphills, I sometimes hear the leakage-sound.

But there is no evidence of oil leackage or other liquid leakage.

My brother said to my that this is a commond sound with dieselturboes, but I haven't heard the sound before, so I'm not sure...

Some tips?

If its a "sound" it's more likely to be an air leak, than a fluid leak. Is it a turbo diesel I assume? There's going to be a culprit either in the turbocharged air system, or in the vacuum pipework. Is it like a hissing noise? Also, if it's the turbocharged pipework leaking you will usually find lack-lustre performance as it loses boost.

Good luck finding what it is.

Mine sounds a bit like that. I have a 1.9TDI and a drilled airbox, so I have to add my bit here and say I think it's turbo-related.

If you are loosing power it's probably a boost leak, if not it'll be a leak this side of the turbo, as it were.

Drilled Airbox? Do you have any pics of this and do you notice much difference with the airbox being drilled?

The problem is not only when driving, but when i park the car i "P" and increase the rpm, then I also can hear the sound when the rps increases.

I've been lokkin in the engine for any oil leak, but I can't find any. The power is also great. But I don't like the sound. Do you think it's serious?

I know this may be way of the mark but when I first got my Octavia and then my Superb on both cars I noticed a running water type noise mostly when I had parked up, Took me ages to realise what it was till a friend at work who's got a passat explained to me it is the water settelling in the Climate control system. never been a problem but you get strange looks from people when they first travel in the car, Like I say may be way of the mark but a different angle to look at it from and you never know!

I get that as well, assuming it's the same thing, almost like air purging from a water system.

Adds another thing I don't think should be on the car, and another reason not to buy another Shabda Shodperb.

That's a sound I get too, though it only last for a second or three. Used to get it on my MR2 years ago as well - no aircon on that, though it was mid-engined with the rad at the front.
