Here's an example of someone's engine cover that has been trimmed to allow fitment of an aftermarket dump valve. How does one go about cutting the engine cover like this, without it looking totally cack-handed? Do you need a hot wire cutter or something?

Ho ho! I'm putting a Hyperboost one in, and it won't fit under the engine cover, AFAIK.

Just leave the cover off, or get hold of a spare and cut it :)

I would have thought a fine-toothed blade in a jigsaw should do the trick, then a bit of glass-paper to tidy up the edges if needs be.

But I haven't tried it myself yet, so don't quote me :P

I fitted a forge DV & when refitting the engine cover it did seem like it would be a bit tight - so out came the dremel & I trimmed the engine cover - so the DV no sits in the cut out, 10mins tops :)

fitted the Bailey on mine and the engine cover sits perfectly, just make sure the small hose that goes to the elbow joint on the top is not in the way to much. infact if your DV hasnt got an elbow on the top you should try one.

Cutting the engine cover could turn into a DIY disaster, here's how I did it (pictured engine is me motor!) oh and DV did fit under the cover first off, but as it is nice and shiney, I thought it could do with an bit of an airring in public - I'm a tart! :rofl:

Remove engine cover (a useful first step I think you will agree).

Mark the line your going to cut, I used white chalk as it shows up nicely and is easy to clean off after. Marking the line is tricky, however I followed the contour of the moulding around the line where the cover goes from being flat, to being doomed.

Using a pad saw (need not be particularly fine toothed) start cutting, a hack saw will help to start both ends because the cover has vertical edges at the sides.

Once cut out, take various files and dress the ends to remove the swarf.

Round the edges with a bit of glass paper and wack the cover back on!

20 min job when doing the cutting carefully by hand.

It's the "doomed" bit that worries me ... :D

Mine fits fine with a Forge DV ;)

mine (forge) definatly sat to high, the top hose would have been ramed up againt the underside of the cover :( - no problem to cut small triangle out & refit :)

That is a AmD Viper if im correct, nice bling ;)

If you cut the engine cover try and angle the blade at 45 degrees, this will give you a nice finish to the edge of the cut.

Jabba now send their valves out with the elbow joint and all need jubilee clips...

you should be able to get the elbow from any tuners that does DV's...

Yep Ross, your guys fitted it along with a K04 turbo, H&R coil overs and EBC discs last summer, do you remember it? Car still going great guns :thumbup:

(oh and earlier reference to engine cover being doomed...... Engine cover being domed may have been more appropriate but you guessed that didn't you all!)

Well, the valve is on, and it fit under the engine cover just fine. The pipe to the OEM valve was angled anyway which surprised me, what with everyone going on about elbow joints. Perhaps it's something they introduced at the same time as the black headlining?

Anyway, the valve was a bitch to remove - took me about five times as long to remove the Bosch valve as it did to fit the Hyperboost one! Now that it's on, I can feel there's a difference. Pressing the loud pedal results in the boost cutting in much more quickly. Nice one! :thumbup:

Cool, ive only been with AmD just over six months so that was pre Ross era ;

Doing another K04 for an Octavia customer week after next, he's not a Briskoda member so I think i'll print a flyer off and leave it in a obvious place :)

Glad you managed to fit it ok. Like i said, i left the cover off, but didn't think i needed to.

P.S My car is crap now without the bits:(

the elbow joint only came with the bailey valve i got from jabba, the OE had the usual straight connector which is part of the mould.
