brakes

I think you want 5.1 or super dot 4 fluid, rather than DOT 5 which is a whole other kettle of fish. I tried the Mintex 1144's and was not impressed with them. Squealed and as Decron says take an age to get up to a usable temperature. Ferrodo DS2500's blew them out of the water. :D

Chris

I have made a schoolboy error. Dot 5 the silcone stuff which you probably dont want.

5.1 or super 4.

this might seem stupid but is £295 good for the 312 brake set-up???

could some1 compare that price to somewhere else please?

Any1 got any info on this??????????

I might have to invest in a 312 set up.

I thought they were alot more expensive to be honest, i thought £500+ for some reason! :D

Edit : What size are standards anyway?

And do they fit under 16's no problem? Or do you need to go bigger?

The standard disc size IIRC is 288mm

And the 312mm set up fits in behind the standard vrs 16"s, other people on here av upgraded but kept the standard wheels

Never tried them (Although a few people I know who have them fitted to Golf's say they take too long to warm up) but I can vouch for the Extremes. They are brilliant for road and awesome on the track.

I had the 1144's on my HDi, and when you were giving it the beans they were absolutely amazing

But around town you had to be really careful as they were pretty awefull when cold:thumbdwn:

I agree greenstuff pads are really poor. My 312's came with these pads and they are rubbish :thumbdwn:

Need to get myself some proper ones,

When golfturbo was struggling with stock at the end of last year I started pricing up alternatives.

A company called sportsdicsdirect (ebay sellers) were the only ones I could find that did a full set (discs, pads, callipers and carriers) and they were selling for £360, but only had a couple of sets.

VWspeed were selling discs, pads and carriers for £305 so you would still need to purchase callipers seperately and they are probably the most expensive part of the kit.

I got the whole lot from Golfturbo for £305.

You cant beat that

I was very lucky, I picked up some pads, calipers and carriers for £80 off ebay.

Then couple with some ATE discs at £50 it was rather cheap :D
