brakes

Featured Replies

are perfomance brakes really worth the money?

Looking at Greenstuff pads and EBC disks on the front?

would imagine the standard items are fine for the rear brakes?

on the vrs the i dont think the brakes are good enougth he best value for money and most popular upgeade is the 312mm setup of the audi tt availble on ebay from golf turbo others will be along soo and say the same

ye i second the above best be quick though as i dont think he has many sets left.

standard size Mintex pads are better than the Green stuff pads

Green stuff = brown stuff = sh1te

as far as i know mr turbo has about 40-50 sets at the moment (just got them may be worth a pm) still selling on ebay tho the best value for money brake upgrade

If you can get them yes, they are good and this will give you the most for the money.

Green Stuff are awful, so are Red Stuff (Even the newer compounds) IMHO. Do a search on them there are a few threads discussing them.

Best by far for a cheaper upgrade is to fit a set of Mintex Extremes pads which are phenominal, they will improve the standard brakeing power and longevity and they only cost about £45 (Compare that with other uprated pads such as Ferrodo DS2500 at £140 a set and you will see they are a bargin).

Better again is get the 312's and the Mintex ;)

bout ye... yea 312's mm r the way to go m8...

Where is this golfturbo chap based then? not keen on spending the £50 on delivery!

Says on the auction that local pickup is not an option.

The £50 isn't unjustified for delivery- my postie did himself an injury carrying mine from the van to my garage! They are farckin heavy!

They are cheaper still if you buy them from his website and not ebay. :)

Wasnt saying his postage price was unjustified, just keen to save some money if it means spending £15-£20 on fuel!

Of course mate! Why spend £50 on postage of you could pick up?

Not sure if you'll get them as cheap as he has on the website? I contacted him direct and paid a bit more than that, but maybe that was becasue I'm in Scotland and postage was more?

Whats the guys website, cant seem to find it on the ebay site

golfturbo.com Welcome Page!

the link never worked mate

Don't bother with Greenstuff - just go straight for the EBC Redstuff :D

Chris

this might seem stupid but is £295 good for the 312 brake set-up???

could some1 compare that price to somewhere else please?

I might have to invest in a 312 set up.

I thought they were alot more expensive to be honest, i thought £500+ for some reason! :D

Edit : What size are standards anyway?

And do they fit under 16's no problem? Or do you need to go bigger?

Never tried them (Although a few people I know who have them fitted to Golf's say they take too long to warm up) but I can vouch for the Extremes. They are brilliant for road and awesome on the track.

You won't regret the pads.

Compliment this by changing your fluid over to eiter dot 5 or super 4 at the same time. It will only cost you about a tenner for the fluid, £15 for the Easy bleed and should reduce fade to nothing.

I think you want 5.1 or super dot 4 fluid, rather than DOT 5 which is a whole other kettle of fish. I tried the Mintex 1144's and was not impressed with them. Squealed and as Decron says take an age to get up to a usable temperature. Ferrodo DS2500's blew them out of the water. :D
