What to look out for when buying felicia?

Featured Replies

Anythin to look out for apart from leaking windscreen and head gasket on 1.3 2000 W reg with 49k?

Rust and corrosion, mainly the rear wheel arches, edge of the boot, And mainly the shocks, if they are corroded look at the cups on them, if they are corroded then factor in a new set into the price as its better to be safe than sorry!

Dodgy ignition switch: no contact with starter in "start" position.

Faulty thermostat/thermostat housing (telling sign is low temp gague)

Corrossion is def one wheel arches espec. may not an issue on a W Reg one though.

Some people say the tappets on the 1.3 engine can be a little noisy.

If you can get a good view or get the car on a ramp you can give it a full inspection.

Check MOT's if there are and advisories they may need addressing sooner rather than later.

Check the brake pipes - mine were corroded but copper greasing may buy you a year or 2.

CV boot joints

And the brakes - mine needed new discs and pads replaced 2 months after I bought it.

Otherwise then that basic stuff applies - examine car before purchase, make sure the mileage and condition tally up.

mine was a lucky purchase from the fleabay.

The only thing I was unhappy with was the rusty arches but working on the car is fun.

Things gone wrong?

Overheated in 2007 but fixed with a new thermostat and fan switch

Failed MOT on CV boot joint this year.

And clutch just gone this week.

Otherwise the Felicia is an ace car. Mines spent more time on the roads than the ramps and apart from the odd problem every now and again it's doing a damned fine job transporting me or anyone pretty much anywhere in reasonable comfort.

Cheap to buy, the 1.3 is cheaper to run thanks to the lower road tax and well we'll have to see what you have to say if you join Club Felicia :D

Look for sunroof leaks, windscreen leaks (open up fusebox and feel sound proofing material), tailgate leaks (look under carpet and into the bottom of the spare wheel well taking the opportunity to examine the spare tyre of course).

When looking for rust also check the area just below the rear screen with the tailgate open.

Someone was putting together a guide on here but looks like it perhaps didn't fully get off the ground, but can understand people have other commitments :)

Good luck in buying. If you buy.

I made a blind purchase on Ebay. I knew relatively what I wanted to buy did some research then bought.

Risky but I followed my instinct and was not disappointed.

Although I def would inspect any car fully before purchasing.
