how do you remove the side rub strips?

Featured Replies

is this an easy job? is it recommendd seems to make the car look nicer in my opinion but if its a big job i will give it a miss ha ha

It is a pain in the **** i will tell you.

Step one

Heat gun and peel back plastic slowly so as it removes most of the sticky trim tape.

Step two (the hard bit)

Get some petrol and a rag and try and rub to get the sticky residue off, takes bloody ages though.

Step three

Give car a good wash and polish to remove the petrol as if left on could damage paint.

I was told petrol would be okay to use on the paint by a pro - and guess what?... it was

Do similar to Jasc but if you spend a tenner and get a toffee wheel, it takes the sticker residue/pad off better, then polish..!

Best buy ive had in a while that thing!

Mine looks great now!

Ive heard about these toffee wheels?

How do you use them? do you need an electric polisher of some sorts?

not at all a pain in the ****. It took 25 minutes max. Bucket of hot water poured over the rubbing strips, then I used a store card to prise off a corner and then pulled away. Majority of sticky residue comes straight off. Rest removed with some rubbing, white spirit and then a damm good clean with clay bar, paint cleanser, sealant and wax.

Jobs a goodun

I used my Toffee wheel in a drill as my machine polisher is too much to hold!

Get one bought, although you dont need one now Jasc!

You must have been lucky!

Mines left millions of glue left one, took about 2 hours rubbing it off with petrol, and i was going hell for leather.

One panel was a right biatch though  as it had a pin head dent popped out by the dealer before i bought it and they took the side strip off and refixed it with even more trim tape :thumbdwn:

Easy for me. :D

My method was

1) Get one end going with a cloth covered flat screwdriver.

2) Using firm but steady pressure, bend off the strips. They should come away from the car slowly.

3) throw now knackered bump strips away. ;) Mine were never going on again.... ever!

4) Use thumbnail to get big bits of glue left on the car.

5) Use cloth and intensive tar remover to shift the rest.

I reckon I got the job done in under half an hour.

I wont tell you how long to do mine then..... (less that Devonutopia...)

I am shocked :(

2 ****ing hours for me

Christ!

Not to worry though mate, there off now, its all over, theres nothing you can do..etc!haha
