Rear brakes

Featured Replies

G'Day all.

another fault with my stepsons car and (of course) I've got to sort it.:weeping:

53 plate Octavia VRS estate. vin starts TMBUR 41UX................

I need to change the rear discs and pads. Is there anything strange/different from every other car I've ever worked on and that I should know before I start? It has the green calipers, do they simply unbolt as per and then the discs knock off? How are the pads secured?

Many thanks.

Derek.

That's an Octavia I rather than a II , but it's a relatively straightforward job to do the disks and pads with no nasty surprises.

The only thing you will need is a brake winding tool to get the pistons back in the calipers. Halfords sell them for somewhere between ten and fifteen quid.

Excellent. Thanks also for the link. Anyway to get away without the caliper winding tool? C-clamp and screwdriver forinstance?

It can be done, but very difficult.

It needs to be twisted and pushed back at the same time.
