chain noise - exhaust?

Featured Replies

hey guys need some help got a fabia 2000. got a bad noise, kinda like a chain ratteling coming from i think is the cat when i go over bumps or on cornering (mainly left turns) i've been underdeath and its not the exhaust wobbling side to side hitting the underneath.

im not sure where or what it is and wondered if anyone else has had the problem or what it could be

Cheers

Scott

It could be the timing chain.

Its a common fault on the mpi engines which i assume yours has.

the catalyst could of collapsed , and the remains of the bits inside are rattling

but possibly expect the engine light to be on if this has happened

When you checked the exhaust, did you check the heat shield? It's an aluminium plate which goes between the exhaust and the spare wheel. If its a bit loose then it will only rattle at times.

My miltek on the ibiza cupra is always moving, and touching the heat sheild same sound. Just needs adjusting now and again.

Well if you have a 1.4 it does have a timing chain ;)

Only if it's a 1.48v, the 16v's have belts
