Bluetooth connection-disconnection when engine off

Featured Replies

Hi

There is one annoying thing about the bluetooth handsfree in my car.

When I turn the engine off and leave the key in (S-position?), the connection to my phone will disconnect and reconnect everytime I "do" anything in the car. Like opening or closing a door. Extremely annoying. Not only are my calls transferred to the phone (I use this a lot and don't wanna keep my engine running all the time when stopping to talk), but the radio will turn off and play those beeps every time.

The dealer says it is supposed to be like that, well, at least it is not supposed to work 100% with the engine off. Really? Disappointing.

Anyone else who has experienced the same, or even someone found a solution for it?

Yes ours do it as well.

I think it's a 'feature' of something on the CANBUS.

Is this because of a device signalling on the CAN bus the different states of the ignition key or just intermitent power to the module?

If it's the latter case you can fix it by tapping power from elsewhere, prefferably RAP, like the radio or the electric windows.

I was wondering the same thing. I'll get hold of the wiring schematics and check it out.

i think its when the iginition is turned off it cuts power to the BT module and there for is running on reduced power, thus the cut out.

If the BT is retrofit (and I think for OEM too) the power already comes from the same CCT as the radio.

I found this old post and thought I'd post the solution for the problem. It's not a cheap one, but simple as long as you get hold of the part needed. Which is a new bluetooth control box, or whatever it is called. I bought a new one to make the phone work properly with the RNS-510 I installed quite a while ago. And after installing it, the problem is gone :)

No interruptions while talking with the engine turned off. Quite a nice bonus.
