Had cam belt done!!

Featured Replies

Hi all had the 60k cambelt service done today from a vw/audi specialist! did an oil service too and cleared some faults with vagcom! used vw pd oil and all vw parts! charged me 240 quid! does that sound good??

Cheers fellas!

Did you get the water pump done at the same time?

I'm asking as Palmers Skoda in Watford quoted me £425 for the cambelt change and new water pump which is a lot more than you paid.

No mate, he never mentioned it to me! if it needed doing he would have definatly told me! done the pulleys and tensioners though! skoda quoted me 570 for the same work to be done! the guy is a vw/audi trained technician straight from school! now gone on his own!known him for years! and he came to me as he is mobile!

That is indeed an excellent price - his labour rate must be more realistic than the main dealer's! :D

Cheers,

Wondered how you'd managed to get it done so cheap from a VW / Audi specialist

Dunno how I managed to hide my disbelief when he said how much is was

Sounds good to me, i got a quote for a cambelt change plus tensioners on my 1.9tdi and my independant said he'd do it for £230. Skoda wanted £350.

Where abouts are you in the UK?

OMG £240 - that's an incredable price!!! I can't find anyone local to me who'll do the belt on my PD100 for less than £320 and I've had quotes from VAG main agents through indi specialists down to the local garage were my brother works.

What part of the country are you in?

Hi fellas, im based in the midlands! I can certainly ask him how far he will travel? i do know he will but not sure how far before he charges for travel time? anyone in the midlands feel free to pm me and i will see what he says:thumbup:

Had my cam belt, tensioner, auxillary drive belt and metal water pump fitted at a cost of £370 from an independant VAG garage which included 3 litres of A/Freeze.

Incidentally, the plastic water pump impellor was intact but the bearing inside the pump was shattered and had scored the outer metal casing, the garage man said he had never seen this happen before.

Don't mean to be an **** but if he really knew his stuff he would have suggested that you do the water pump at the same time as it requires very little extra labour when you're doing the cambelt and it is a wise precaution as they have a habit of failing with age.

Having said that it's still a good price and having someone you trust not to rip you off is worth a lot:thumbup:
