right after noticing my cars mpg and performance decreasing i have read up on here about disconecting the maf sensor i disconnected it and the performance in my opinion has improved now so i popped the plug back in and the performance is still there but i now have a light on the dash.

what do you guys reckon is the maf buggered or is it just me :confused:

The light is more than likely on because you have been running without the MAF plugged in so the ecu thinks the MAF is goosed. It's now probably running the ecu's set of rules regarding airflow. Which is what it does when you unplug the MAF

If the car perpormed better with the MAF unplugged then it may well be that yours is on its wat out.

what is the life expectancy of the mafs then as my one was replaced about 7000 miles ago

will it be fine to drive around with the light on till i can get someone with vagcom to reset it ???

Unsure about life span of a maf but it should be more than 7k

What air filter are you using is it a sports one ???

You should be ok to drive with the light on but don't quote me on that

nope i was on a green cotton for a little while but ended up putting the original back in

Had you oiled it in the last 7k because you may have got oil on the maf sensor, thats my best guess atm. Alhtough its not impossible that the maf is knackered at 7k. Do you have any IPA handy ??

no i never oiled i ended up giving it to my mate and i put the standard one in what is an ipa in car terms i know it is a bitter lol

Isopropanol alcohol

Contact cleaner, douse your maf in it and it will clean it, which may help your problem

Ideally you need vag com to check whats going on exactly

just wondering if i disconnect the battery for 10 minutes will it stop the light coming on i know the fault is stored on the ecu but the light is pretty irritating lol

The light should go out after about 15 mins worth of driving.

I once had the MAF disconnected and started the car. Yellow light came on.

Took the car for a drive after ringing dealer in a panic and just asI was pulling back into the estate the light went off.
