Fabia 1.4 Excessive Petrol Consumption

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a problem with a fabia 1.4 coming up to 5 years old.

Normaly I put about £30 petrol in and it does me a week.

At the moment It is supping juice like no tomorrow, I am putting in £20 every other day covering exactly the same mileage as I have always done.

It has always been serviced by a Skoda main dealer until the last year when I just changed the oild and spark plugs

The dealership the car was bought from are unfortunatly not only incompitent but downright disshonest charging over £400 for work that was supposed to have been doen but wasnt.

I am thinking it might be the petrol pump giving out.

I have replaced the petrol pump on an old Citroen CV by myslef , which was relatively simple but never attempted anything like that on a modern car such as a Fabia.

Any helpfull suggestions appreciated.

Hi optomen

If you're using that much fuel you must have a fuel leak somewhere!!. I can't imagine it being the fuel pump.

You need to take it to a garage that has good diagnostic equipment so they can see what's going on.

wonky

Hello optomen and welcome.

I can't help, but am thinking that if you say whereabouts you are, someone nearby might be able to suggest a good garage. There is a "dealer reviews" section on Briskoda, though it'd probably be better to get a recent recommendation if possible.

Regards

Mo

I'd recommend getting another garage to run a diagnostics. If you know someone with VAG-COM, they can do a check for you (VAG-COM is the diagnostics software sold by Rosstech for end users).

Which 1.4 is it? 8 or 16 valve? Being computerised, it's highly likely that there will be an error message in the diagnostic logs which will guide you to where the problem lies.

Thanks for the PM, Mo :)
