I found this site while looking for a new car. I currently drive a 1.2 Clio but I am wanting to upgrade it to something bigger.

The Fabia looks good as you can get nice looking cars for around 2.5k and are cheap to insure. I like the estate, lots of room for all my climbing stuff!

I am not sure where to go for the 1.4 petrol in either 8V or 16V or 1.9 diesel, any suggestions?

Hello and welcome. Deppending on your budget I would look for a 1.9TDi version of the estate. It's a very good engine which will cope easily when you have all you climbing gear on board, and it's very nippy with good mpg. The 1.4 will be ok but I don't know what it would be like pulling the weight.
