Rear Speaker Bodge in 98 Felicia

Featured Replies

After inheriting a '98 1.9D Skoda Felicia, I wasted to improve the sound because it's rubbish.

I successfully transplanted an aftermarket Kenwood Head Unit from my old (scrap bound) Ford Escort, and I removed the rear speakers from their mounting. The stereo works fine, but I'd like to install the 6"x9" rear speakers I nicked from the ford in the back, rather than replace the fronts. Because I am on a very limited budget.

I have found, on each side under the front doors, a pair of wires, presumably for speakers (the wires look identical to those emerging from the HU connection). They disappear under the trim, and rather than pull them out, I was wondering where they end up, so save me running wires from the front to the back myself.

I also need a good idea about how to mount the speakers in the back. Parcel Shelf is the best candidate, were it not for the area I live in, and the scavvy gits that roam the streets.

IIRC the wires come out wehind the side panels in the boot, you could fit the speakers under the shelf and then cover the whole shelf with black felt cloth so it looks as there is nowt there

I put some 6" speakers in the detachable covers for the rear quarter (may be estate only?) and ran the wires underneath the seats. I have the amp under the passenger seat, and then the RCA leads to the headunit on the passenger side, the power running down the driver side (or vice versa, can't remember) Easy to do though

On closer inspection, the speaker wires appear to travel up into the plastic casing over the front seatbelt mechanisms... How do I get this off? Gentle levering from the bottom yields only curious kinks in the plastic.

It's a hatch, not an estate. Are the detachable covers for speakers, or did you cut a hole in them yourself? Can't afford another amp (HU is 4x50w anyway no way can I afford a sub yet).

Good Idea, rigsby. I'm off to the felt shop.

When installing speakers onto the parcel shelf, do I need to worry about damping any of the vibration from the speakers? They have a rubber strip that went between them and the plastic moulding in the old ford; presumably to do something.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.

Just make sure that non of the cone touches the shelf
