Hello All - Question re. biodiesel

Featured Replies

Hello All

I've known about this Forum for a while, but have just signed up. I drive a bog standard Octavia Elegance Estate 1.9TDi 105BHP. It's a 2005 model bought new, to replace the older Octavia estate that I bought new in 2002. So I've been a Skoda driver and huge fan for about 6 years.

I've been studying biodiesel threads as I am an environmentalist (professionally and in my personal life) and I want to reduce my carbon footprint. It seems that you can run a blend of vegetable oil with normal diesel with not too many problems (I'll have to learn how to change a fuel filter though). I have two main questions:

1. Can I just bulk buy rapeseed oil and pour a few bottles into the tank every now and then (perhaps aiming not to exceed 10% of the tank)?

2. Does its use invalidate my warranty should engine problems develop?

One further question: Does my 1.9 TDi count as a PD unit or not?

That's all for now. Look forward to hearing from you all.

Adam

Hello roverrowe and welcome.

Use the search facility at the top of the page - the bio-diesel question has been discussed extensively here a number of times.

AFAIK, yes, your motor has a PD engine.

If you look in your owners manual under "fuel" you may get some more (Skoda) information which as has been pointed out here is different to dealer information.

Hiya.

Don't even think about biodiesel with PD! BTW, you'll get noticably better fuel economy and CO2 than a Toyota Pious does anywhere except on the urban cycle, and you'll can match it there by turning the engine off when stopped with a warm engine for more than 15s.
