Restarting from warm/hot

Featured Replies

My Octavia 1.9 TDI Elegance, DSG automatic, 54 plate with only 26000 miles has had a ‘starting from warm’ problem for a while. Starting from cold or even freezing cold it starts immediately but if I stop for 5 minutes then try to restart it from warm/hot it can take 8 seconds of turning over before it fires and even then it can run rough for a couple of seconds before settling down to a smooth tickover. The Skoda dealer has replaced a temperature sensor without curing the problem. It starts fine from cold so the glowplugs must be ok. It seems as if some mechanism or component isn’t re-setting itself quickly enough after switching off the engine because if I leave it for 15 minutes, instead of 5 minutes, before restarting then it’s ok again. No fault codes are showing and the dealer doesn’t seem bothered.

Any ideas any one?

Which temp sensor did they replace? Might be unrelated, my dad's felicia had this problem and it was a temp sensor thingy that had gone, effectively flooding the engine with too rich a mix, so had to leave it half hour between starts. Had a borrowed golf gt with a similar issue so I'd have thought an independent diesel specialist might be a better bet than a dealer

There might be a sensor in the exhaust and the engine area

I have what sounds like the exact same problem on my 04 1.9 elegance, garage found faule with glowplugs and replaced them but cant find any other fault codes showing. Would like to get a vag-com on there to see if any sensors are senging any odd readings back (eg too low causing it to think its a cold start) but havent got access to one. I have a limited warrent yon the car so want to get it sorted before that runs out

Will post anything that I find that might be useful :)
