Today's job - only half successful - adding central locking

Featured Replies

Just fitted a central locking kit that cost £22 from maplins. Only installed front two doors so far. Wanted to add it on to my recent alarm insallation.

Passenger door always seems to work if locked and unlocked on driver's side with key, and always works on remote for passenger door if the two front doors are in the same locked/unlocked state. Driver's door has only worked twice out of loads of tries. I think it's having problems with the motor not providing enough force to work the mechanism, so I presume the mechanism needs a good lubrication.

Ah well better half (or one quarter) central locking than none.

Thanks to Skoda for providing holes exactly where needed to place the actuators (I presume they're for Skoda's central locking). No thanks to Skoda for making the door card retaining bits as prone as possible to snapping and breaking.

Yessssss WD40 saves the day. Sprayed copious amounts through key hole and now working.

Now some idiot has thrown egg all over it :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Went outside to my car alarm to find a neighbour out on the pavement, she was quick to say she came out to check out the car alarm. Thing is she could have seen everything through her kitchen window or from the doorstep, she had no reason to be in the pavement to look at the car alarm. And she was one of the neighbours I thought was decent :mad: Feel like egging their visitor's car now. :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

With her position on the pavement too and the time the alarm had started going off all too coincidental. Just goes to show you can't trust anyone. :mad:

Anyone got a cheap house going spare? Must be in decent area and have no ch@vs or underclass scum who are jealous of a crap car.

I'm going to feel bad now because the driver's side door lock mechanism will not unlock with key from outside. Must have broken the mechanism after spraying WD40 on it. Suppose it doesn't matter so long as RCL works but annoying nonetheless.

Just bad timing, you can't blame WD40 for this.

btw, i'd rather have egg thrown at my car than paint, as has been done in the past to me. Also woke up one morning to find the car covered in shaving foam with 3 empty cans on the pavement, a lot harder to clean off than you'd think. :mad:

Yeah my guess is on the central locking installation causing it. Oh well.

:thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

We need to find these people and douse them with various things. Most annoying thing to me is it looks like it was someone I thought was one of the decent neighbours.
