Been busy today

I have had the annoying power steering light for quite a while now. Changed the steering angle sensor etc.

Today I bought a 100g tube of silicone grease from my local ford garage for £12. I set about unplugging all the plugs on my engine, power steering and anything that had a plug that I could find. Putting a large dollop of grease in it and putting the plug back on.

Since doing this, the engine has never run so smooth plus I have just been out to the car and started her up. No power steering light stayed on. It started as it should do. The glow plug light came on and went straight off again. Before if it had been left for 6 hours. The glow plug light would stay on for about 4 seconds, then go out and once the engine had started. The power steering light would stay on.

I am hoping this will be a fix for everyone to do on their fabia. The real test is if it is frosty in the morning, to start the engine and see what happens? It only took me just under an hour to do every plug so it is a simple and easy job to do.

I will update in the morning with hopfully positive news?

Good work keeps us updated

Sounds like a good fix there mate.

Just hope it doesnt mask any major problems.

I tried my car in successive days after greasing all the plugs. The light still came on. Then I got thinking... what about the battery? I know Skoda prohibit the use of grease on the terminals. But I recently had a new battery fitted and the positve post was blackened. So I took the terminals off and cleaned them. Then placed some silicone grease on the posts and refittted them. Started the engine and it started as normal. The power steering light went out as normal. The engine also seemed to be running much better from cold.

I am wondering if that is the main cause of so many unsolved power steering issues?

It would be interesting for someone else with a simiar problem to grease the battery and try it? I will report back after a few days usage

I am going to get the bottom of the issue, as it is a bloody good car apart from this niggly fault!

I wonder why they tell you not to grease the terminals? In my days as a Crown servant, greasing battery terminals in the garages was one of my stock jobs to be getting on with to avoid being given any other work to do...

Your guess is as good as mine? I thought it was the norm to grease the connections. I have done on all my other cars.

Seems odd but yep I'd grease them too..

:D
