Air filter help

starch

Recommended Posts

Hi I have just taken apart the after market air filter I have on my car to clean it out. I have bought some cleaner fluid and some oil, but once I had brushed the rubbish out (and there was alot, in fact I could have grown trees in it), i noticed that the wire mesh in the filter had corroded and chunks of the mesh were missing.

When I rinsed out the cleaner it is apparent that the corrosion has stained the filer medium, and whist there are no gaping holes, will it be ok for me to just re-oil it and put it back in the car, or is it passed its best and I need to try and get a new filter (Not something I want to do at circa £180).

I suspect from inspecting the bills that this was never cleaned out by the previous owner, or the garage that did all his work, and that the filter has probably been on there about 3 years, and the previous owner had it for about 18 months, but didnt do many miles as he could walk to work.
