Knock/rattle under braking

Featured Replies

Help! my vrs has developed a knocking/rattling noise most noticable under heavy braking at slow speeds I also think ive heard a creak as the brakes are released and the front raises, it also seems to do it when I reverse onto my drive (steering full lock to right) front arb and bushes are virtually new (Been replaced within last month) so rules that out.

Im thinking arb droplinks, ball joints or cv, any thoughts anyone :(

Front ARB mounting bushes, or rear subframe mountings maybe.

TBF, there are lots of possible causes of rattles, and it helps to know where you think it's coming from.

Defo not arb or bushes, will renew droplinks on wednesday and check balljoints while the wheels are off, didnt do them at same time as the bar and bushes because my local pilling skoda sold me 2 offside droplinks which I didnt realise till I went to fit them as they had taped them together.

The noise seems to be somewhere very near the offside wheel and as I say it doesnt rattle under normal driving and cornering only when braking below 10mph or so and as I reverse. Tried full lock both ways slow and fast and dont get knocking so may not be cv joint but I'm no mechanic so thought I'd ask on here.

Still hunting this down i have found the lower end of the radiator has about 5mm play forward and back but not side to side, rad makes a metal to metal tapping sound when it is jiggled. Whats recommended DIY or garage repair?
