is my skoda felicia being the **** of all major shits?

Featured Replies

Ok,first of all i have a Skoda Felicia,the 1998 1.3glx one.

i got it's oil changed like 2 weeks ago most.

Then i got some problem with the brake discs...the things that are suppost to hold them in place seems to "loosen" every now and then (every 8 - 10 days circa).

and of course,i got myself stuck in the darn thing (the skoda) in some snow (don't remember what word is used to describe "Loads of Snow",usually the kind that halts traffic)

and then my Clutch got ****'d or so i think...i had to drive my car in Reverse to the car repair shop...kind of embarrasing, but fun (my reverse driving lvl went up by 2lvls lol)

and now the clutch is "kind of working" but the guy at the repair shop said that i shouldn't drive the car more than i'd absoloutely have to,but i just got my driver's license december 11th last year so...fk that i'm gonna drive alot like always and then something Had to go wrong....and it has been getting worse ever since.

at first the car was "kind of" normal,in an abnormal way since nothing would happen when i turned the car on,clutched it into 1st gear and took my foot off the clutch...it wouldn't even stutter, but when i put my leg on the accelerator i'd have to get the car to about 3000rpm to get it moving....it went on like that for about 2-3 days. Then yesterday when i was giving my friends a lift it got worse...it wouldn't exceed 50kmh & i had to have the rpm at about 4000rpm constantly to gain speed...and now...the car won't move unless it's on 5-6000rpm(redlined)

so it's just parked...btw it doesn't even want to drive uphill...not the slightest bit.

Sincerely, the ****ed off & disappointed owner of a 1998 Skoda Felicia. (DJOli (Ólafur)).

Oh dear , Slipping clutch ?

Did you pay the car repair man money ?

no i asked him for money...ofcourse,and he's totally overpriced...and a total ***** too...

Clutch is worn out mate, you should have taken the mechanics advise about not using it...he was correct! I wouldn't keep on trying to drive it or you'll end up damaging the flywheel more than you might already have.

What work did the mechanic do, sounds like he only adjusted the cable to get you home. Did he recommend a new clutch?

Yeah...anyway i just got a great deal....another mechanic working somewhere else in iceland (lives where i lives, but works about 500kilometres south,in a larger city) agreed to fix this for me,or as if so to speak changing the old clutch and putting a new one in and uh...for HALF the price the overpriced ***** said it would cost...this is the status:

The overpriced ***** said he'd do it for 100.000iskr (around 755 British pounds, not including a new clutch) and the other guy said he'd do it for me for about 30.000iskr (around 380 British ones) including the new clutch :D

so ofcourse i'm telling the overpriced ***** i'm moving my buisness elsewhere and i'm probably going to enjoy driving my skoda in the future or atleast enjoy driving it while it gets me where i'll be going :).

£380 doesn't sound too bad. I would expect to get a little cheaper in the UK (although I admit I've never shopped around for a clutch fitted yet) but as you're in Iceland the prices are probably very different there anyway due to market forces, wages, taxes etc.

Hopefully you'll be up and running again soon enough :)

Doesnt sound like you're getting much happy motoring out of your Felicia.

Unsure about Icelandic prices but I had to get a new clutch on mine.

Clutch and cable came to £75 from a Skoda dealer and fitting would have been £150 my mechanic would have charged.

so £225 in total .

Bad luck, Ólafur, but don't be too hard on your car, a worn out clutch will get you sooner or later.

Your local repair shop sounds as the **** of all major ****s, though! 50,000 ISK sounds OK. It's more than you would have to pay in UK or Sweden, but almost everything is a bit more expensive in Iceland.

But it's a beautiful country! SWMBO and I went there in August for the first time in our lives, and we are decided to get back some time - even if one has to pay £4 for a bottle of beer

whatttttt!!!!!????

£50 for a clutch kit and £50 labour is what i pay each and every time! even my 5 series cost £200 all in for a clutch change, and thats a subframe-out 2 man job!

Oli can you give us a little more info on the brake discs loosening?

i payed bout 200 plus vat i think for my new clutch thought it was quite alot but i dont now :D hope all goes well for you bud an ur felly :D

The brake disks shouldn't loosen anyway, they are held in place by the wheel nuts. The locating screw only holds them in place until the wheel is on.

Is it a garage that charges you £50 to replace a clutch? If so I really don't know how they keep going!

I paid £200 for my clutch to be done - not bad considering - £380 sounds quite a lot.

Oli, I'm not being sarcastic but you'd better make friends quickly with someone who understands cars and learn a bit from them! Driving round in a 10-year-old car with a lot of km on it is all fine and good, but you need to know just a little about what's what. Like, if a car needs 5000 revs to move it's NOT SAFE TO DRIVE! (not safe for the car, you, your wallet, and ultimately other road users).

Oh just about 2 days ago when i was taking a drive i noticed that my gears started getting "stiffer" than usual especially the 2nd gear,so i started clutching, putting into "none" and reclutching & putting into 2nd gear....still felt so damn weird.

then it happent

driving downtown in the smalltown i live in my car just "went off"...i tried starting it again a couple of times, and it started a bit smoothly again....then further downtown the gearshifter just snapped loose...feels like holding a stick held by some rubber...and i'm pretty sure that Skoda Felicia's are NOT meant to be driven in iceland i'm 100% sure about that.and oh...the irony The Felicia broke down JUST outside the car repair shop :o

kind of a good place for a car to break down dontcha think.

anyway gonna get this repaired then going to see how long my felicia will last.

Óli,Reporting from iceland.

I knew the linkages worked loose but never knew they snapped off

How cold is it up there? It should be ok I would have thought. I hope you get it sorted

i heard it broke cause of Rust...it may have just snapped into peces... so i talked to the nice repairman and he said he'd fix it for under 150$...or somewhere in that area...so it'll probably be up and running in time for easter...cause he went out of the country...

and right now it's -2.6 degrees celcius ...i don't follow the weather news very much but i guess it goes to -10 or -12 when coldest...
