S.O.C.G.B. Website

Featured Replies

:)The Skoda Owners' Club G.B. has been without a website for a while. Well, we now have one again at last! It's not quite as fancy looking as the last one, it's very basic and simple, but it does have just about all you need to know on it. It will of course be updated as and when needed.

The link is in my signature. Comments welcome, including constructive critisism.

:)No comments, guess it must be perfect then! :D;)

Seriously though, we've just added some links to other sites....including BRI-SKODA!

It's very basic Dave, and I don't really want to be critical because I know you are doing a really good job for the Skoda name.

Is there anyone on here who can help with the HTML?

:) It is very basic mate. We used to have a more fancy looking website which was done by someone more experienced with websites than our current man. When he left the committee we were without a website for a while until Oz did the basic one you see now. It's a kind of stepping stone onto a fuller, more modern site. A site of any kind is [i think] better than no site. I appreciate what Oz has done hugely.

SOCGB is a club that started in 1962 and at it's peak had over 5,000 members. However, as the cars became more "normal" the enthusiasm for the club dwindled and I think it is because most people associate the club as being only for owners of old Skodas [which are virtually extinct now]. However, that is very definately not the case, we cater for owners and enthusiasts of Skodas old AND new. In a survey we compiled a couple of years ago owners of modern Skodas made up most of our membership.

Please excuse my blatant publicising of the Club on here. I don't intend to compete with BriSkoda, it's on a different scale to SOCGB and in fact I think BriSkoda is brilliant and enjoy it hugely. I'm a Freedom member myself. I've been a member of SOCGB since I got my first Skoda in 1990 and it's a club that is pretty dear to me. I joined the Committee in 2005 and I'll do whatever I can do to help keep the club going. Don't get me wrong, the members we have a very loyal bunch, we have loads of events and a quarterly magazine, but I'd love to see the club thrive with a few more members.

Anyway, I posted this thread to get opinions, ideas, and constructive critism of the website and the club itself. I honestly don't have an issue with critisism. I'm not suggesting we have mindless slagging off and swearing, but good old fashioned discussion, critisism and ideas on how to improve things are very much welcomed with open arms.

Thanks for your time guys/girls.

I don't personally think people would object to you plugging your website on here, it must work both ways :)

I have been an on/off member of the Skoda Owners Club since 1989 and have never met such a friendly and enthusiastic set of people in any car club ever. The members are always happy to greet a new face, the camps are awesome fun and the cars range from tatty to concours.Back in the early 90's I was amazed at the modified rear engined Skodas that attended the meetings/rallies etc, and on my first Club event at Linton Zoo in Cambridge back in 1991 I was welcomed like an old friend.Quite unlike the Daf Variomatic Club I was a member of through my work - my cousin was a Daf specialist in the mid 90's - they were very hostile to see a new member turn up, especially if the Daf you turned up in wasn't a 'showroom' condition vehicle.

By the amount of meets they have on Briskoda and the members enthusiasm for the marque, it would be nice to see how many would be interested in joining the Skoda Owners Club.

More power to your elbow SOCGB:thumbup:

:) For no real reason other than it being my birthday tomorrow I thought I'd bump this thread! :D

I'm currently trying to set up online membership....cheques and envelopes work well but are considered a little old hat by most people these days!

I am a member of the South East "chapter". I, with the famliy attended a couple of meets including the 2006 Uxbridge Auto show. I casually mentioned that I was also a member of Briskoda, and no one spoke to us for the rest of the day.....................:o

I am not renewing my membership this year..........:(

:(Very sorry to hear that. I can't for the life of me think of any reason why that happened, but please rest assured that such stupidity is not the norm. I was at the show you mentioned, and if I'd been aware of what happened it would have been sorted out!

Briskoda is a great community that I'm proud to be a [Freedom] member of.

You didn't talk to me either :P . It was the attitude more than anything, " Oh Briskoda, that lot............." Now, did you notice or was it the "popular" members who won the best in display car competition..................

:P Maybe you didn't talk to me. ;):D Didn't realise there were members that are more popular than others to be honest. Are you suggesting some kind of fix?

Anyway, very sorry that you feel the way you do, I can't change whatever happened to cause it, but like has been said several times [and not just by me] the Club is pretty well known for being one of the most welcoming and friendly Clubs around.

I went to quite a few events during the 90's and everyone was friendly, polite and pleased to see another Skoda turn up.I attended the East Section camp at Lonely Farm in Saxmundham back in 1992, and we all took turns to drive each others cars!It was great fun, and I bought a Favorit to replace my Rapid after driving one blokes G reg 136LX.

At another camp in Springfields the same year, I came 2nd in a driving contest, and in 1998 at a camp in Stratford, when i turned up in a BX diesel, I was still welcomed with open arms.I even got a drive of a 1990 Rapid cabriolet in royal blue that was going for £350.I'd have grabbed it if SWMBO hadn't said NO!

The Skoda Owners Club holds great memories for me as I had such great fun and made so many wonderful friends, all brought together by the wonderful make that is Skoda. As soon as I am well enough and can drive again, just try and stop me attending more events!

Is there anyone on here who can help with the HTML?

Or try the .Net mag forums.

Always someone learning something and need someone to test on for experience, yet rightly not confident at using a paying client.

Worst would be some sort of link to their website building biz.
