Heater direction control stuck.

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Strange problem, the direction **** for the fan outlets (i.e. the right hand most rotary switch which controls whether you demist the windows or your feet) appears to be stuck. I can rotate it from 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock, but that it is it. I tried a fair amount of force to rotate further, but it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to break it. Any thoughts? Main dealer job or self-fix?

Thanks!

the **** refers to kknob.

Not sure - The only problem I had with mine was when the flexi-rod connecting the rotaty kn0b to the actual vent mechanism popped off. Which meant I could spin it and it did nothing - luckily it pointed to half screen, half feet when it popped, so was liveable with until I could get off some trim and reclip it in properly. It's well fiddly.

Why yours has just jammed, I'm not sure. Nothing like leaves etc can get in there can they? might be worth removing the pollen filter to the right and underside of the glovebox and seeing if there's much material in there stopping it moving?

The flexible shaft from the kn0b attaches to a gear and rod mechanism on the side of the heater matrix. If it's not something obvious obstructing the flaps that you can see and get to via the pollen filter, I think you're into a rip it apart job.

Thanks for the suggestions, I had the pollen filter replaced and the plenum chamber specifically cleaned out at a service a month ago so I'd be surprised if this is the problem. I've got it booked into the main dealers on monday so we will see what they find. I guess it is going to be expensive in terms of labour if the dash has got to come apart (hence why I'd rather a main dealer to do it than my cheaper local garage). Lucky it is jammed within the range that includes demisting the windscreen.

I wonder if they dislodged something when they changed the pollen filter etc.?

Not a happy chappy, the heater control has been fixed today by the main Skoda dealer, for the princely sum of £240 for labour only as the whole dashboard had to be stripped apart apparently - especially in the driver's foot well area. Apparently some sort of mechanism had come of it's rails if that makes any sense. So far I'm averaging about £1/mile in repairs since I've had this car!
