Ive seen a few TDI golf, the 110bhp models, with tuning boxs fitted, but where from, ive lookied on ebay, and there all for the newer engine, the PD ones.

Don't forget Dragon have an ebay store too. They sell their 30 day money back returns and reconditioned units still with full 3 year warranty but a lot cheaper than the RRP.

Mine should have been £270 i think but i paid £199 for it from the ebay store. It was also shown as for the Audi PD130 but you just tell them what actual car it's for when you buy it.

I have a ten pin 'tuning Box' upgrade that is sitting in the garage doing nothing. It was reputed to be one of the better ones and should have been at around £300 notes, it also did make a difference - i am open to offers otherwise i may fleabay it!????

I also have a spare tuning box (made by Tuning Box SPRL) which was installed in my 1999 Octavia TDi SLX 110 BHP when I bought it second hand. I removed it to avoid paying the higher insurance premia. I also have a copy of the installation instructions that I obtained from the manufacturer.

Really easy to fit - but you need to check if you have a n 8 pin or 10 pin connection!

If you take the plastic rocker cover off and find the two temp senders and water pipe coming out of the head. Go below this and to the left slightly and you will find a big chunky connector that is black and its mounted onto a bracket. This is the connection that you part and place the tuning box between. It has genuine VAG plugs so all connects together but some are 8 pins and some are 10!!!!!! My tuning box is for a 10 pin - just count the wires on the plug!!!! let me know how you get on!

Well the cheap ones i cant really comment on - i guess you pay for what you get!!!!

I have always gone for the better quality in the thought that its probably better value in the long run.

I have experience ALPIN, TUNINGBOX and DRAGON and they are all £200-£300 units and have all been good! I spent ages going through the forums for info and experiences and the TUNINGBOX that i have was well rated and has been around for a while with no probs! Its adjustable and so you can set it to suit that car and as each car is different it will pretty much suit according to your taste!

They set them at about 65% on the dial adjustment so this does make a difference - mine was more top end power or at least seemed like it. I then experimented to about 85% and it reminded me of my old WRX Scooby - very boosty and the ESR was working - but great fun! I backed off and I never went further as it started to smoke more on acceleration and the secret is to set it to the point that its on the border of smoking/normal this is the optimum point as smoke = unburnt fuel! oh and bald tyres!!!!!
