Glitch or serious?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After nearly 2 months of trouble free ownership, my Octavia 1.9TDI had it's first 'glitch' yesterday and I'm wondering whether anybody else has had anything similar. I started the car as normal yesterday morning and set to work scraping the ice on the windows. When I jumped back in and closed the door, I noticed that there was a constant loud clicking noise. Initially I though the climate control flaps were on the blink and causing it as it sounded like it came from the side vents but when I switched the climate off totally the clicking noise remained. My wife also commented it was coming from her side as well. I then ascertained that the clicking noise was coming from the speakers (tweeters). Anyway, we had to go so as the car seemed to be ok in every other respect, we drove off. However, for the 15 minute journey the clicking noise remained and was really annoying, Especially as it seemed to have taken over the loudspeaker system and the stereo although working was not outputting through the speakers. Anyway, got to our destination and I switched off ignition and nearly bricked it as the clicking noise remained! However, after about 10 seconds, there was a loud 'thud' sound from the bass speakers and the clicking stopped. Sounds like when you switch an amp off. I switched ignition on again and the clicking started again and then I heard the thud from the bass speakers again. This isn't good I thought. A minute later, there was another 'thud' from the bass speakers and the clicking stopped and I could hear the stereo again through the speakers. It hasn't happened again since in the 4-5 times that I have drove in the car. I think it is obviously some kind of electrical glitch (and I'm hoping it's a one off as well) but I wonder has anybody else experienced this happen to them? I will probably get the garage to do a fault diagnosis when the next service comes up. Just wonder what on earth it could have been and whether there is some electrical system somewhere in the car which has actually gone kaputski.

I would get the upgrade 'flashed' onto the stereo unit, in case it hasn't been done yet.

Hi, thanks for the advice. What does the flash upgrade do for the stereo?? Since Sunday I haven't had the problem re-occur so I'm hoping it is a one off.

I am led to believe that it stops the radio muting inexplicably, and as mine did exactly what yours did, stops that as well.
