04 VRS Gearing vrs. mpg??!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've finally decided to give my faithful silver 03 plate Fabia VRS the boot after it clocked 88,000 miles.....but only because I love it too much to see it die and I can still get some money for it! Don't fear though, I'm trading it in for a lovely shiny red 04 plate VRS.

I'm slightly concerned though that the revised gear ratios are going to put a HUGE dent in my fuel bill. In my current one I have no trouble getting 60mpg (on the trip computer) from it and although I do 600+ miles a week I only pay £50 (ish) for the privilege, and have a lot of fun on the way.

I have test driven the 04 plate VRS and admittedly , it did feel a little bit more perky than the my 03, especially in gear in 6th but I did notice that it sat at 500rpm higher at 80 than my 03 one.... what say you good people?!

I dont think its as much as 500 rpm tbh

i get good mpg around 55-60 mpg at 65/70mph

my 04 VRS will do 60mpg no problem , and 600miles to a tank , so i wouldn't worry about it

600 miles to the tank?! How on earth do you do that? Do you only drive downhill.... with a following wind?!

It will make next to no difference.

as i said to jason last night mine vrs is only getting around 35 mpg......standard and i dont give it death......

somethings wrong here :(

bryand did a spreadsheet to compare gear ratios etc IIRC

Im sure its still on here somewhere - although it may take a bit of finding

So your changing it incase you lose too much money on it/its worth nothing in x years time.

Any servicing/changing of worn out parts on your current car will give it a new breath of life (better the devil you know).

Out of interest how much would yoube looking for your vRS and how much is the replacement ? Does the replacement have any options not fitted to yours?

Will be your MAF sensor dude, search on ebay for some dielectric grease, and i'll fit it if you want, check your airfilter too, could be clogged up?

Also get some Millers Diesel Sport 4 in it, i run mines on it constantly, £12 from halfords, lasts 10/15 tanks
