Rubbish radio reception.

Featured Replies

I have a symphony head unit (cassette)in my L&K Octy and the radio reception isn't very good in between buildings and at the bottom of hills.

My previous car (Fabia vrs) had the Symphony with the cd player and this was fine in the same places.

Any ideas?

Bad aerial connection?

Checked all connections and even tried one of the aerial boosters you need for aftermarket systems but it is still the same.

It's driving me mad.

Break in the aerial windings? I don't know how good the Octy radio is cos I almost never use it; I mostly listen to the stacker, or cassettes.

How old is the car?. There is an issue where water ingress into the base of the aerial causes the amplifier to fail.

i found mine improved when i took out the stereo to do the bluetooth kit, guessing it wasnt plugged in properly, still not the best, but better than what it was.

You can get the antenna base of by lowering the rear rooflining. Then you can unplug the antenna line and open the nut holding the antenna base to the roof.

But I don't think there's any point in this if you're not going to replace the whole antenna. The antenna base is pretty much a sealed molding, so it's not possible to open it without breaking the whole thing.

You could try to "revive" the antenna by spraying some electronics contact cleaner from the antenna hole on top.

Just unscrew the whip and take it off. Then spray the cleaner and wait. Screw antenna back on and try if it's any better.

Oh, and if you decide to take off the antenna base and you have curtain airbags, be very very careful, the filler tanks for the curtain airbags are near the antenna base.
