cant get it into gear! :(

Featured Replies

i Seem to have a gearbox problem where it wont go into reverse or 1st gear but if i turn the engine off and re-start the engine the gearing is fine anyideas if this kind of problem wud be covered under a used warrenty and i have had a re-map also?

I wasnt sure if when i turn the engine off and on it is re-aligning the gearing?

H E L P ! ! !

That sounds like the clutch is dragging rather than a gearbox problem.

As the clutch is hydraulically operated, id be looking very carefully at the hydraulic system. my first point of call would be to bleed the clutch system at the gearbox end bleed valve, to make sure there is no air whatso ever.

May possibly be a faulty master cylinder too, could be anything really

:iagree:

Bleed the hydraulics first. After that, check the slave cylinder for wear before the master though.

:iagree:

Definitely sounds like the clutch, cant go wrong bleedin it 1st plus it dont cost anything

And...is that it?? Did they not do anything???

it could be the clutch itself , the plate could be distorted or the cover could have weak springs

but deffo get the clutch hydraulics bled before taking the box out to check the clutch plate

self bleeding, now theres a clever idea. How does the car decide weather its bleeding trapped air or fluid

They are talking ****e, same old trick to get rid of a complaint :thumbdwn: well done SKOda dealers ;)

You can get hydraulic system which self-bleed, but i dont know if the skoda clutch does this. Might be worth getting in touch with different dealers for 2nd opinion.

il be in touch wid another local dealer on monday and lt you know, but on the self bleeding i did think that was very strange! they did say that is could also be something to do with gearlinkage which they could look at when the car is in for its next service. Very Strange!

You could design a clutch system such that it would normally self-bleed, as long as the flex pipe is fitted correctly (reservoir above master cylinder, and master above slave with no high point ('n' bend) in the line to trap air bubbles. That said I wouldn't rely on a self-bleeding system.

Before you start going expensive routes, have you had the gear linkage reset? I did this 2 weeks back when 3rd and 5th gear was getting difficult to engage. This is very easy and is in the haynes manual. On top of the gearbox are 2 springs loaded cables that go through to the gear lever. These sometimes get clogged up with gunk and stop the self adjusters working smoothly. By resetting these and wd40 the springs and cable ends, my gear change is now restored to better than I had it before.

Would the above relate to a superb too? I'm struggling to get into first gear quite often now!

I'd think so; it's the same engines and boxs unless you have a Superb V6.

My garage had problems bleeding my clutch when they changed it, so I'd doubt it's all self bleeding ;)

ok well il have a look at that first because you know how much hassle it is just for them to get something looked at, at a dealership!

Think you need a new dealership mate.

It really is a shame there are so many cr*p ones out there. While they are hard to find the good ones are real Gems :)

I had the same problem with the rover, turned out the pipe pressure had dropped.

I think i'm in a similar situation. My car wants to move when selecting the forward gears (mainly 1st and reverse),with the clutch pedal fully pressed down. Guess what, the dealer couldn’t find anything wrong. Going back down Friday to show them.
