Featured Replies

what bits need doing for the 40k service? anyhitng ive missed from the list? and what products would you recommend for each.

Spark Plugs - Denso Iridiums?

Oil - Mobil One?

Oil Filter - Generic one?

Brake Fluid - Dot 4?

Air Filter - paper filter

Air Con filter - paper filter

Brake pads and Discs will be done - standard discs and mintex extreme pads

ill also be doing Cam belt and water pump at the same time (Belt has been done but not the pump so doing it for peace of mind)

swear im forgetting something but not sure what?

Looks as though you have got some good stuff sorted out there. Will you be completly renewing the coolant when the pumps out or not?

dont think its ever been changed afaik. would i be better off doing it?

According to Haynes coolant change is not in the vag schedule and should not need to be changed as long as the long life G12 coolant is used.

Standard coolant should be changed every 2 yrs

P.s if you are doing the work yourself Mann airfiler is the exact replacement for the original

ill be buying most of the bits myself but getting the work done by a freind as dont fancy cocking up the belt change.

is the long life coolant available from vag dealers only? and would i ask for g12 coolant?

anyone know the part numbers for the bits for changing the belt and pump on VAG Parts?

At seven years old, I'd change the coolant anyway. In fact, I actually had it changed at 4 years (~68_000 miles) old because I didn't know what sort of condition it was in since I'd only got a stamped service book to work from.

Afaik you can get coolant from other places maybe try motor factors.

They started with G11 which is blue then moved onto G12 orange/pink currently it is G12+ purple.

I Think you can still get G12 if you just want to topup rather than draining it all. The G12 and G12+ can be mixed but i wouldn't like the thought of a funny colour in my tank.
