Morning folks, brand new newbie here.... I feel like a bit of fraud at the moment because as yet I don't actually own a Skoda........ but I am going to....soon I hope...

Which is one of the reasons I'm here really.... to get some expert, enthusiastic opinon on which I should get?

p.s. at the moment it's looking like a 2/3 yr old Octavia tdi Estate Elegance spec. or One of the 4x4 diesel models.

If you're looking at a Mk1 there aren't any diesel 4x4s I think. Go for an Elegance or an L&K if you can. The Elegance is well loaded and quick; the L&K takes the Elegance spec and adds leather, an even more powerful engine, better brakes and a 6-speed box.

I've test driven a couple, one 2.0 tdi Elegance and one 1.9tdi 4x4 both very nice cars BUT the spec I want is really the 4x4 and there are less of these so dealers playing hardball on price.....

I was hoping to get an impression of the robustness/suitability of the non 4x4 for steep hills, muddy farmers fields, dirt,gravel tracks etc....:confused:
