Who to insure with for VRS?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

A quick question for you all.

Who is the most reasonable to insure a bog standard VRS TDI170 with?

A friend of mine rang me this morning rather alarmed at the fact that Greenlight (who she currently insures her Audi with!) refused to quote for her new motor thats due to turn up next month!

I remember reading about this in the past due to the pay out stats on the VRS but it never affected me six months ago!

So, who do you use? Who have you found to be the cheapest. She has a good driving history and lives in Northampton.

I'll forward any advice,

Many Thanks,

Lee

ps - ive already made her aware that she can get 7 days freebie insurance from Skoda UK so she has more time to sort this. :)

Just renewed with More Than, came it at around £517 with full protected NCB living in Brum, single male over 30. Surprisingly my car insurance went down from last year (with the same company). Car is 2.0 TFSI so its the petrol one which is a higher group than the diesel.

Also recommend confused.com, used them for about 3 years running to get insurance, and again this year to check no one was cheaper than my renewal.

Another vote for MoreThan:

vRS Petrol - Male, 28 (with the mrs on policy), 5 Years NCB, outskirts of Bristol - £360

They wont touch anything modified though, so I'll have to leave them if I ever get around to the remap...

I'm with More Than and I can confirm they won't touch anything modified so I'll be leaving them come renewal time.

Mine was about £360 ish, - male, 32, 8 years NCB, 6 points within 5 years.

Call Adrian Flux, always very good and will cover and mods now or in the future.

Esure through Confused.com.

New Vrs TFSI

£300, 30yr 6yr NCD, protected NCD and legal, in Angus. No points or mods.

Swift Cover were cheaper but I've had problems in the past going with the cheapest quote.

What are they like when you come to make a claim though?

£302 with Esure via Confused.com. Full NCB, clean licence, no mods and live on the Wirral.

Dave.

Used a price comparison site when I got the VRS last May and More Than were the best deal by far.

Touch wood, not had to claim yet but the premium was a winner in comparison to the other usual suspects.

£375 fully comp with six points on licence.

After years with Eagle Star (Zurich), I changed insurers to (I can barely bring myself to write it - Tesco , scum:mad::mad::mad::(:finger:) because they were cheaper.

One non fault crash, 20 months and a successful remedy from the Financial Services Ombudsman later, I went back to Zurich as a previous mis hap I had when insured by them was sorted out sans fuss.

It really is true, you get what you pay for. Go for the best company, not the cheapest. I am sick and tired of all the 'cheap insurance ads on tv'. Eager to get your business, but then nowhere to be found when you need their help.

I am very happy with Zurich Direct in the knowledge that although they cost a bit more, they do sort out insurance matters swiftly and effectively.

NFU was the 'best' insurer in terms of happy customers.

I pay £330 fully comp with Direct Line (thats with protected no claims / legal / vandalism cover too)

I've just renewed with More Than for £470, this was £500 cheaper than my current insurer - Elephant.com..

I was quoted for More Than through Confused.com, so I would def recommend using the price comparison sites (not matter how annoying their adverts are!)

Age 25 with 5 yr NCB, 2.0 TFSI.

More than wouldn't insure me as i am a golf pro (something to do with having possibly famous person in car) I only drive four miles to work and there ain't any chance of Tiger Woods being in my car. Got full NCD, never had points. My best deal is with Hastings direct at about £460.

Strange how More Than seem so cheap for TFSI engined cars, I pay £518 for my Leon FR - 24, 3 years NCB.

SwiftCover - £275

(and no clucking call centres apparently!)

32, Full NCD, Hertfordshire, zero points (don't ask me how, I only got a Road Angel 6 months ago!)

I pay 350 pound for my tdi vrs. That's for me, 29, swmbo, legal cover and no claims protection on. I'm with Direct Line.

I am also with Direct Line and recently got the renewal through for £320. I am 28, the wife is 30, we both have 3 points but full no claims. Thought I would be cheeky and phoned them, asking to be put through to retentions, now paying £240 fully comp. Beat that!

Go compare came up with:

Sainsburys £397 fully comp, protected NCB (limit - 2 claims in 3 years), legal aid, courtesy car, personal injury.

insuring new TDI VRS estate for me - 49yr 7yr NCB (but a claim in 2007 £4900) and wife - 49yr 5yr NCB (+ 2 x SP30 convictions).Cummuting & business.

My previous insurers, NFU, wanted £650

It pays to shop around - but read the small print
