home made boot install

Featured Replies

Im looking at utilising the side wells in the boot for my subs rather than taking up the main body of it. has anyone done a home made install using fibreglass ? or got a stealth box for their octy boot?

any pics or advice would be welcome.

I made a basic boot install for mine just using mdf, made no plans up though so can't really help with sizings but just give it a go,others have done it too as i've seen pics on here

Hi, i've got a stealth box- it was built by Paul Godden at Auto Acoustics (http://www.autoacoustics.com/ 01403 823628) who made me the box and a stealth shelf. As he has used my vehicle as a template, he should be able to make you one without you visiting.

Please see this thread: http://briskoda.net/forums/ice-security-insurance/sub/97822/ for details and pics.

They also had some carpet in stock that was pretty much an exact match for my interior. If you do contact Paul, please mention my name (Mark Everett), as I promised him a mention.

Let me know if you need any further info. Mark.

aii that looks ok but the passenger side well looks to sit out a little. i think i may just give it a go tbh as mdf is cheap round here and would rather have the look what i made claim after its done.

Yeah, it ends level with the shelf supports, which are narrower than the boot floor. Have considered squaring it off with MDF to give me room to mount all the amps, but currently have them hidden away.

Have been meaning to try a bit of fibreglassing to make something taller but narrower - just not gotten around to it yet.

iis fibreglassing hard to do?

I made one for the Corrado from fiberglass. It took quite a while, but was pretty easy really. I lined the boot with plastic sheeting, then lined the area with glass matting. Then mix the resin and pour/brush in. The hardest part was getting resin into the top surface, as gravity is against you when its in situ. Once a thin layer was set, the blank came out and was thickened with more mat and resin. A lot easier this time as you can rotate the thing. Finally, I decided where to mount the front MDF plate and trimmed the blank to suit, and attached with more fiberglass mat and resin. Final finish was to stuff it with loose packed rockwool (helps keep the sound "tight") and cover in black carpet. Total cost probably about £25.

End result here.....
