LED Bulbs on my Felly.

Featured Replies

Right,

I want to change some bulbs over to LED's to reduce power drain on my cars charging system.

I've changed the side lights to LED and they look good... But I want to change the Indicators too. Now, if I put LED's in there, they'll flash fast because of the lower power drain.

Is there anotherway with out fitting resistors and things?

Also, the brake lights on my felicia are at the bottom of the cluster and this means they also incorporate the tail lights. Can you use LED bulbs in here even though they're dual filament?

Also, interior bulbs...

I want to change the instrument panel to blue LEDs... Or Ultra Bright White...

Easy?

Stu

RE the resistors... as far as im aware you can't use LED indicator bulbs without load resistors.

You can get direct replacement bulbs for dual filament bulbs... ive got some in mine... just make sure you get the offset type so that they fit properly.

One problem i noticed with the brake lights is that they're not as bright as normal bulbs so i fixed it so that the LED bulbs come on full brightness with the brakes and the other bulbs in there are the sidelight bulbs (you may have noticed that there are two bulbs in each cluster... one sidelight and a dual filament for side/brake lights).

Good ol' boy... Cheers! :D

I know the two bottom ones are tail lights, and the absolute bottom is tail/brake...

Also, is there any way I can make the fog lights my brake lights and my brake lights my fog lights?

It's just I like them to be high up rather than down low!!

I think I saw some sort of mod somewhere that let you get away with using the indicators so they don't flash fast, unfortunately can't remember any details - sorry - I guess you might find them if you google long enough or ask people who sell them on ebay as they'll be eager to tell you if they know to get you to buy off them.

Only bulb I have changed to an LED one is the interior courtesy light to a 9 LED white one, looks great in the dark - noticeable increase in brightness.

I guess for brake/rears dual filament you'd be looking for something like these...

Car Rear Light, Taillight, Indicator, Reverse LED Bulbs, 19 LED, Dual Intensity, Double filament, 15mm Bayonet, BA15D, UK

I'm sure I remember seeing some LED lights somewhere that sort of turned on lighting up and sort of moving in a circular pattern - they would be cool.

LED dash bulbs would be good so long as they aren't too bright in the dark. As for colour I guess it would sort of mix with the green standard colour. Would be interested in trying to change these myself and maybe some other people will be too, so if you do, please let us know how good/bad they are

I guess you just need to swap the positive wires over. Haynes wiring diagrams should help with that.

I just don't like having low brake lights and high fog lights... It looks quite retarded in the recent fog... Everyone drops back when I turn them on!!!

If you do this make sure you can swop back round for the MOT as there isa set distance for the possition of the fog lamps and they have to be inbound of the brake lamps

If the brake lights are moved from the bottom to the top, and the fog lights moved form the top to the bottom, how does this affect the MOT? Same distance, better position

Guess we all have our weak spots when it comes to vanity, and why not LED lights, but power drain from side lights/indicators?

In Sweden dipped headlights are compulsory round the clock (have been for decades) so I have a constant load of 130 W (10 A) from lights only when on the road, that's absolutely no trouble for the charging system.

Old cars - with 6V system and DC generator - do have a problem, but with 12 V and AC alternators this was done with. If you have a power drain, something else must be amiss.

But inevitably, when I have my indicators (Hazard warning flashers) on, the dashboard lights dim ever so slightly and this is starting to get on my nerves.

Plus, LED bulbs give a cleaner light. I've got 100W Per headlight and they don't cause the problems... But I do get a bit ****ed off when stopping on the motorways and wondering why my dashboard flickers ever so slightly

More watts, more loaded on to the alternator, belt, engine, fuel.

Can't understand why a Felicia owner ever should have to turn on the Hazard flashers - unless of course to help some unlucky fellow motorist :D

But OK, that's 84 W plus the relay, and engine turned off (?) so if you use them a lot I can understand the power drain issue.

You're right there, of course, and the Swedish DRL regulations do affect the overall fuel consumtion. But sidelights only are just 0,027 BHP and that's neither here not there - one could probably save more power by choosing one's tyres carefully

I spend alot of time on motorways... And in the UK... Hazard Warning Lights are used on motorways when slowing down quickly.

I think my battery needs replacing, as it looks pretty old!

I just like things to be PERFECT... Nothing else will do

Cheers, I'm a little less ignorant now :o in Sweden Hazard flashers are only allowed on stationary vehicles. With the heavy traffic on UK motorways I can see that they can be used often.

Still, a dimming dashboard could indicate something else - dodgy earth connection or alternator or battery - so might be worth checking if you want it to be perfect.

Unless on a motorway, hazard warning lights can only be used when stationary.

I am thinking a dodgy earth connection is the cause... As the battery charges perfectly... And is giving 14.2V

If you've got problems with dashboard lights dimming then there's a bad connection or two in your wiring somewhere, simple as that.

As for turn indicators, if you want to put LEDs in and lower power consumption you _must_ convert the flashing system to fully electronic, otherwise you'll just be using resistors to get the current draw back to where it was with bulbs.

predictably, since then, prices have fallen and ranges have broadened.

But still: £5 for the equivalent of a 5W wedge bulb... My old Nissan rolled 200K in 15 years and I had to replace TWO sidelight/rearlight bulbs in that time. And remember, DRL is compulsory in Sweden so the lights were on all the time.
