Hi everyone

I would some advice on what CAT1 alarm to have fitted to my 04 fabia vRS and is it worth having a tracker fitted:rolleyes:

If anyone lives near Uxbridge or has a person they use for their use...share

I've got one (a tracker) on mine, and after a few false alarms caused by a particular problem, I think I'm confident it'd work. Whether I'd want it back after it was stolen is possibly another matter... I've yet to find an insurer that offers a discount for having it, though. I suspect these days, they're more fitted because an insurer won't cover you without one on certain cars rather than getting a discount for having one on any car...

You might want to edit that post as the comment gives a very strong hint as to where the device is fitted.

Personally, on a fabia vrs, I don't see a tracker being really worth it on a car that isn't an exotic or very desirable for the reasons stated above.

I don't think I'll bother on my next car, but fitting it in the first place was a relic of living in such salbrious districts of Manchester as Longsight, Hulme and Harpurhey!

PS: You'll need to edit your post too, although it's not actually fitted anywhere near there I don't think!!!

VRS are high on the theft list ATM.

I would go for one personally, if only to catch the scum that held you at gun/knife point for the keys.

Octavias yes, fabias no.

The Fabia has a cat 1 alarm IIRC, why do you need another one?

i doubt you need a tracker for it, it's not exactly a desirable hot hatch when compared to golf's, cupras, Astra VXR's etc.

Save your money.

A friend recently pointed me at this tracker (i-mob) which is a must have for any gadget freak. Not sure I'd bother on a Fabia though as it's not really that desirable, no insurance company will give you any discount for having one, and I'm not sure I'd want the car back after it had been rallied round the country. Car comes as standard with a Thatcham-approved cat 1 alarm.

I've become a fan of the Clifford systems. The basic systems are cheap, but the more advanced and thatcham ones are quite pricey. They also do something called callguard which can send you a message whn the alarm goes off, and you can control various things in the car by text message if wired up, for example you could start the engine if it had the engine start optional add on installed, turn on the sidelights, and so on. I believe it can also be used for tracking, in the same way you can track mobile phones. Another feature available from clifford is something called blackjax which means you need to know the pin code everytime you start the car, and if the doors is opened and closed. If the pin is not entered eventually the car will stop and sound the alarm leaving the thief stranded.

I'm sorry? We have had 4 threads on here that I remember of people having their Fabias stolen, one of which from this week where it was taken at gun point. Ok, maybe they were not there with the intention to nick the Fabia, but it was still never the less stolen. The poster isn't asking whether you all think he should fit a tracker, but what a good one to fit?

Can't you actually respect that and post a useful suggestion?

I concurr. While many many people might think it to have been a waste of my time and money (albeit £100 - more than the car cost) installing an alarm on my favorit, it has contributed to catching a next door neighbour breaking eggs onto my car on the roof, side, bonnet and even ramming one down the air vent, - the b!tch claimed she went to check on the car when the alarm went off, but noone else was around and she must have been superwoman to get there that quick, plus she has a superb view from her doorstep so needn't have been stood next to my car - so she must have done it. Annoying thing is I thought she was a decent neighbour. Hopefully it's at least saved me some time cleaning the car in future and cost of shampoo. I also added central locking so the remote CL is handy.

What made me decide to get an alarm was the next door neighbours (different neighbours to the egg one) were putting their christmas rubbish on my roof and bonnet, caught them red handed and challenged them but they got threatening towards me calling me a fat b******. Like I'm the one who had the police repeatedly visiting their house, what an idiot threatening violence after they've done wrong - and to their next door neighbour. Also their kids keep writing in frost/snow on my car  hopefully the weather will make that not possible for another 9 months or so.

Will hopefully stop the "let's f**k with his car" attitude more than one neighbour seems to have, and save me money. But I suppose I'd never know what would have happened to the car if I didn't put an alarm in it.

Technically the Fabia vRS does come with an alarm as standard.

At the end of the day your car is worth what it is worth to you, and it isn't exactly anyone else's place to say what is worth while or not to do it.

If I started a thread about what is the best glue to use when covering my Fabia in Swarovski diamonds I don't feel it is anyone's place to say whether or not it is worth while not. On the other hand if I asked 'Do you think covering the Fabia in some bad boy bling is going to reduce the depreciation' then it is an invite to make opinions.

It'll take more than a gallon.

Sh17 doesn't burn that easily:D

My bold above on both quotes.

So you're flaming me after your Boyfriend and Chris both said pretty much the same thing?

The OP on this thread isn't the same OP as the other thread either.

Seriously Emily, get over it or at least flame all three of us.

I'm getting very tired of your pick out a post by Mark and flame him attitude of recent months.

You're more than welcome to say what you think at any meet face to face, in which event I'll happily share my thoughts back. Otherwise why don't you keep your snide remarks off the forum!

Now FFS, the fabia is not that desirable car to your average theif.

Yes 4 members have had their cars nicked and that is not nice. However, how many golfs, Audis, BMW's, Mercs, Porsche, and other cars have been nicked in that time.

On the grand scale of things Skodas are probably not at the top of the average thief's list of cars to nick and fitting a tracker is most likely an expense that could be better spent elsewhere.

I have no idea where you would get a tracker fitted near Oxford, but personally I'd probably save the money and spend it on getting a clifford blackjax or similar system fitted.

So lets rap my question up!

Has a 2004 Fabia vRS got a CAT 1 alarm on it?

Yes, and it's Thatcham approved too! ;)

Thank you Christ an Roo

and everyone else for your input

I believe you're supposed to get a certificate to certify that it is thatcham approved. Not sure if it's needed for insurance purposes or to make you satisfied it meets the requirements.

Insurance co's know cars that come with factory fitted CAT 1 alarm/immobilisers

Thats only for aftermarket fitments. They are needed for two reasons, the first is your guarantee that the alarm has been fitted to Thatchams standards by an approved techician, also it's the proof the insurers need that the alarm meets the cat one standard.

For cars built with the alarm at the factory, as Mark says thatcham supply the list to the insurers.
