speaker recomendations please

Featured Replies

Hey guys... upgraded the speakers in the doors of my felicia a while back to some cheapo motor world specials and they soon blew thanks to rammestein!!!

I am wanting some speakers that can handle LOUD!

Ive since upgraded my stereo to a sony that allows me to turn the bass down then turn the sub up so they won't be handling a great deal of bass...

I also like to blast out opera... sad i know... and my current speakers just crackle and distort when i turn them up... do i need to look at the frequency response or something for this?

Just had Ave Maria playing loud at home and not a single crackle.

Thanks

Phil

p.s. my stereo is a sony cdx gt310 (will it be powerful enough?)

ive always gone with sony's high end speakers, but recently my SWMBO bought alpine comps, and i will certainly be going alpine for my next set of speakers! the crispness and clarety is brilliant! and the comps she bought are quite slim and are a universal too. the tweeter is seperate and although was a bit bright sounding initally, its calmed down now.

Are the speaker holes in the felicia door cards 6x4" like the Favorit? I am tempted to try some of these Low Cost Car Audio | Pioneer TS-H467 *TSH467 - Custom-fit 4 x 6 Speakers but the Blaupunkt 100w speakers supplied with the car itself aren't all that bad to be honest.

I think the general rules of speaker buying are don't be blinded by the wattage ratings (mfr's will go for bigger numbers but bigger numbers do not mean better quality - and many are overestimates anyway) - and it's a good idea to listen before purchase, but that's probably not possible in most cases.

Might be a good idea to look over forums like the AVForums Home and Talk Audio - Mobile Electronics Online Magazine

Cheers guys... will have a look around for the alpine's.

Ive never had any luck with speakers in my car... probably because i only choose cheaper ones! lol

The speakers aren't the 6" x 4" but they are either 10cm or 13cm... will have to double check.

Do you know if these speakers will fit a '94 favorit easily, without adapters, extra brackets, etc.? My driver's side speaker doesn't work and I need to find a straght-forward replacement (of course I'll replace the pair).

I've been tempted to get them but haven't managed to justify the cost yet. However, I have had the door cards off and measured the depth available, the gaps between the screw fixings, and can confirm that they *should* fit based on measurements as a straight replacement, but cannot guarantee it.

This is assuming you have the 6x4" speakers in the door already (usually Blaupunkt's).

Resonant Audio RE6.5s. Need a 3" hole to mount them. But they'll handle loads of watts RMS. Should add, needs a decent amp. The with Genesis Profile 2 ultra or capable of similar output.

I had Alpine type R comps and 6x9's running off a 4 channel amp. They where brilliant. clear all the way up and could handle lots of volume. Make sure you use some dynamat or similar to prevent rattles etc and kil road noise..

Good luck

Hi Darkfox. Did you get these Pioneer speakers in the end? Just wondering if they sound any good and do 100% definitely fit :)
