Servicing costs

Featured Replies

I've trawled through a few threads and not really found the answer so apologies if already covered and rambling nature of my post.

I'm getting conflicting stories and costs on servicing for a 2006 2.0TDi Octavia.

Car is set for annual servicing so just coming up for its 2nd annual service (I will be having it swopped to variable servicing when I take it back as I suspect this will be cheaper/longer intervals overall)

When I asked for cost of "2nd annual inspection service" I was quoted £250 for a "first variable service as they are the same" - first question are they as I was thinking the inspection service would be relatively cheap, £250 didn't sound it to me:confused:

I then asked for cost of oil so I could decide whether to supply my own - this caused a conversation to go back and forth a bit between various people and when I answered the question "why do you need to know?" with "so I can decide whether to supply my own or even go somewhere else instead" the total service cost immediately came down to £180 including fluids. Is this reasonable/good/poor in peoples experience:confused:

At two years it also requires a brake fluid flush which they quoted £39.99 inclusive - I thought this was pretty good

Comments/advice please?

Oops - sorry, missed last question off. I asked them to confirm if the flywheel warranty recall had been done on this car. They didn't seem to know anything about it but a check of records showed it hadn't (it had something on the radio and an airbag and harness done). Do all 2.0TDi's need this check or just certain ones and if the dealer doesn't know how can I?

The flywheel recall was for some 2.0ltdi's built before 2006 IIRC.

I believe (and I could be way off the mark!) that you can only go from variable to fixed servicing and not the other way round.

As for servicing cost, it always pays to ring around a few local dealers and independent specialists and see what the going rate is. Some dealers will price match and it's always worth asking if they're more convenient :D

With service intervals you can go to variable from fixed and back again

I just got a second variable service plus air and pollen filter and change of fuel filter on an Octy II done for a smidge over £200 at a main dealer who matched the price another dealer was offering.

I have to say that on the whole VAG servicing is very expensive as a 12.5k miles service on a ford focus is more like £125 and even the BMW 1 series dealer service prices totalled less than the Skoda.

I think the £180 is reasonable (for VAG), but would ask them to do the air and pollen filters if not already included and also see if you can get it for £200 including the brake fluid.

Hi,

I have just had a quote for a second variable service on a octavia II with 35000ish mile from my local dealer in Huddersfield of £317.00 after questioning this price and quoting some of the entries from this forum it has come down to £224.00. to be honnest i can get it for £210.00 but it is 35 miles away as aposed to 1.5 miles. Worth questioning and shopping around.

If it's not a major service then I would recommend trying some VW dealers, our local one was £90 cheaper than the nearest Skoda dealer, they have only just taken on the Skoda Service contract, they have always had quite a good reputation, I used to take my old Passats there a few years back - but then this was only a first service, Oil & filter!

I also needed a drivers side tweeter replaced because it kept playing up & they had one there the next day ready for when the car was in.

W.
