How easy to install new headunit?

Featured Replies

I've been given a free headunit off a friend who doesn't have a car atm, it's pretty rubbish but probably better than my cassete/radio in the Fabia now.

So is it very easy to simply take out OEM and install the new one? If so is there a guide someone can link me to that may be specific to the Fabia. Any specialist items needed, or specific techniques for troublesome OEM kit?

As you can probably tell I haven't done it before, and would like to learn.

I'm aware there is a frame that is needed, which I can get for £1.50 from the dealer.

Thanks.

Did you do a search?

There is an ICE forum.

You need a frame

A cage

Preferably an ISO adaptor too, otherwise you may need to swap the yellow and red wires over

the main problem is that there is a naff all space behind the headunit

might need a radio signal booster too

My blaupunkt went straight in with no need to use ISO adaptor or swap any wiring over. Did have to buy a spacer to go around the head unit, as it's slightly smaller than the skoda unit. Also had to buy a signal booster (£7.50 halfords) to get the radio reception back to the levels I was used to with the installed skoda unit. Halfords fitted it for free. I'm told they charge these days, but well worth it.

Further to the 'no space' thing, I managed to get an aftermarket CD changer adaptor behind my stock HU, but only after tucking the adaptor in the bowels of the dash before I tried to refit the HU. So you ought to be able to come up with something!

IMHO, the Symphony CD / radio isn't that bad. SWMBO's Fabia came with a radio / cassette, but instead of bothering with all the faff of the cages, frames, fascia adaptors (not on the above list!), adaptors etc. etc. needed to fit an aftermarket HU, we just got a 2nd-hand Symphony off fleabay...

But it's up to you - there's plenty food for thought on here if you need help deciding what to do! :)

Just wanted to check this with links because im looking at fitting an Alpine single din Head Unit to my 06 Fabia vRS.

A fabia double din facia plate (to fit single din HU) Connects2 Skoda Fabia Facia Plate - CT24SK03 from Connects2

And looked for ISO adapter but could only find this :

SKODA antenna adaptor (PC5-52) - PC5-52 from

do you still need the lil bit from the Skoda Dealer, and are these all the parts you would need to fit a HU?

Thanks, Chris
