Octavia Stereo Turning itself down, Skoda UK response.

Featured Replies

My Octavia Stereo turns its self down.. ( I suspect others have the similar problems )

I've had three hu in all with slightly different 'faults' on them..

Had a chat with Skoda CS rep.. who told me that the Symphony in the Octavia and Surperb have a 'safety' feature that prevents the stereo been

turned up to loud... Well my stereo turns its self down when the volume control is around 12 - 14 on the volume dial ( Volume goes from 0 - 47 )

The volume drops to 7-8 .. this at Motorway speed is so low I can have a

normal converstation without to much problems.

The Symphony and other setups in the Fabia don't have this 'feature'

As the Fabia 1.4 Curteosy car had the bog standard R/C in it .. It could be

turned up to the point of distortion without turning itself down ( tried this for over half an hour ( I was'nt in the car.. )

Anyway.. CS rep gets Skoda Technical dept rep to contact me, who tells me that the Octavia Symphony is a new generation system that once it detects

the amp getting driven hard cuts the volume gently.. On asking about the impedence loading on the Hu amp he tells me that the speakers in the Octavia are the weak link and the HU in a Surperb are better and will handle Bass better, but this will eventually do the same if pushed hard enough....

HRRRMMMMM Not convinced... I will be testing this 'theory out on a Superb at the dealers next time I go in...

.... P.S. funny how no other VAG group car suffers from such a feature...

Easy solution, rip it out and put something decent in :)

If I keep the Octy then an Alpine setup is awaiting... But I was concerned about poss wiring issues damaging the Alpine HU....

Ta

Dazz.

Get the right adaptor, no-one has had any such problems as far as i know.

I certainly haven't ;)

Mine only seems to do it on a hot day - car been parked in the sun all day. Someone said that the CD HU does not have this problem?

Can it and get somethin decent in there. There's plenty of folk who have done it. Infact (self promotion is such a great thing - don't u find) there's a very good meeting being held on Sunday (don't u know!) nr Birmingham called....ahem the funky jutel meet supreme, where you can view said articles in other people's cars...wow!

It costs absolutely no money and a fine time is guaranteed for all :) :P :D

My Superb doesnt do it, and its still standard fare with the ICE. This does include me "enjoying" Freebird,Oasis etc etc...(ok..so I,m slightly deaf after these "enjoyments")

Andy...

Yes the stereo in the Surperb is the same as the Octavia but the speakers

are better.. But apparently the volume turning itself down will happen on this

only it will be louder...

What I find amazing ( and others who have heard it ) is that i can have a converstation over the stereo level without raising my voice at all, when it

starts to happen the volume control can be set at 14 and it takes it down to 8.. this is on a stereo where the vol control goes from 0-47

Also the Fabia's cheaper setup.. Radio cassette less power can actually be driven louder with better bass and non of this nannying sound control...

Its like having a vRS engine that turns the power down when you rev it towards the red line because it might get stressed....!!!!!!

Crap excuses for a bad design... Seat Cupra ( Leon ) stereo system is far better...

Cheers

Dazz
