epc light?

Featured Replies

Could anyone tell me what the 'epc' light is for? Also, what does it mean if it comes on when you switch the ignition on, beeps three times and stays on until you start the engine?

An octavia I test drove today did this and it sounded like a 'warning' but I haven't the foggiest clue about these clues yet.

Also, the cltuch felt very light and didn't seem to bite until I'd let it out half way. Is this normal or am i looking at a knackered clutch?

Finally, I thought there was a lot wind noise, even at approx 50mph on the back roads; do you guys think ther'es a lot of wind noise generally or was I dealing with a crap example?

Cheers!

Electronic Pedal Control and it does stay on until I start my engine, think its only a prob if it stays on with the engine running.

should i translate that as 'traction control' then? We're only talking about a 1.6l petrol!!!

Is it giving a warning signal or just testing the system?

Its not traction control. If im right the pedals send a radio signal to the throttle rather than a traditional cable from pedal to throttlebody.

EPC = Electronic Power Control.

I stand corrected

ok, great ... so is this a warning light or just a system test then?

cheers

Octavia 1 Owner's Manual:

The warning (ie EPC) light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. If the warning light does not go off or comes on or flashes when driving, this indicates a fault in the engine electronic system. A program stored in the engine control unit makes it possible to continue driving with certain restrictions - contact a Skoda Dealer for professional assistance.

Fabia Owner's Manual:

EPC EPC fault light (petrol engine)

The EPC (Electronic Power Control) warning light comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on.

There is a system fault in the engine control system if the warning light EPC does not go out or comes on and flashes while driving. The engine management system selects an emergency programme which allows you to drive to the nearest specialist garage by adopting a gentle style of driving.

The glow plug system warning light fulfils a similar function for the diesel engine if it starts to flash while driving, ie it indicates a system fault in the engine control system and the engine management system selects an emergency programme.

Sounds normal then - but i've no idea why it wold beep as well!

TBH after driving a couple of cars today, I've decided that the mondeo is a cut above!!! I think I may be tempted by one!
