diesel wont start

Featured Replies

Felicia estate in the garage at the moment. Mechanic insists new starter should fix it but i'm not so sure. Car gave up whilst leaking diesel all over the road. New spill off pipes put on at roadside. Cranked and cracked by recovery man. No good so sent to garage.

Checked for air ingress along fuel lines. Checked pump outflow. No problems seemingly. Have just ordered new set NGK glow plugs.

Anyone got any suggestions before i dish out on a new starter?

thanks

I remember 'in the old days of diesels' you had to leave the ignition on for a while to warm the glow plugs up before starting up! :D

A good charged up battery, and lots more cranking/cracking, but a garage has 'got it' now.

I would have had a home recovery so I could work on it myself, and or a mobile mechanic, rather than pay garage labour rates.

Oh well .

Good luck mate:).

I wouldn't be suprised if it did require a new starter...

My other halfs pug 306 diesel had starting problems for a while where it would only just start then wouldn't at all... so garage stuck a new starter on and hey presto all was good!

Check the glow plug fuse 50 A I think, these fatigue and crack over time.

If it spins over fast enough, the problem will not be the starter. Check power to the glow plugs, if there is power there , remove the glow plugs and check them. if they are ok it is most probably fuel related. Make sure there is fuel at the injactors by cracking off the inj pipes at the injectors and spinning it over. if no fuel comes out it could be an immobiliser fault

:iagree:

Well, unless the starter is spinning "too fast", when it's clearly the starter because it's not engaging the flywheel before turning.
