Columbus sat nav install???

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, having just recently purchased my Octavia vRS which has the Nexus sat nav installed, i've been thinking of upgrading to the new Columbus touch screen sat nav! I know it's expensive but was wondering if it would be a simple case of taking out the Nexus & just replacing it with the Columbus?

My guess is it's not quite that simple as nothing usually is? Also wondered if the colour can be changed on the buttons as i've seen a few for sale for VW's at a more reasonable price than the one advertised on the Skoda accessory brochures?

Many thanks in anticipation for any help/advice given! :):)

You can use a VW one but it isn't really feasible to change the LED's.

It is pretty much a straight swap, connectors will be the same.

Thanks VRStu,

Am gonna splash out & get one from Skoda as i can't bear the thought of a green & red dashboard lighting up? Much better being all green. Will also benefit from start up screen saying Skoda rather than VW i guess too!

When you say pretty much a straight swap, is there anything in particular i should look out for? ie: extra antenna or wires etc? Thanks again...

If you have factory Nexus then I assume you'll have a roof mounted GPS antenna which will be fine.

You'll find the Columbus has two FM antenna connectors you'll only have one in the car but it does fit on the inner one of the two plugs.

Thanks a lot for your help Stu! Am picking the car up this wed (can't wait).

Have never owned a Skoda before but after test driving the vRS & researching it on forums, asking mechanics etc, it was obviously a very good buy!

Will i be able to play my ipod through it (columbus) do you know? Not a major issue but would be handy!

Thanks again...

If you have bought a new or nearly new (2007MY onwards) you'll have a 3.5mm Jack in the Jumbo box which will pass audio to the headunit. Alternatively you can buy an adaptor which utilises the CD changer connector.

However with 20gb of HD, DVD's of MP3 and an SD card slot will you need it?

If/when i get the Colubus i'll almost definately not need it but just wondered if until i get the new sat nav that the old one can play my ipod through it (Nexus). My vRS was registered new in Oct 2007 57 plate & does have the jumbo installed!

Will sell the Nexus when i get the new one so if you know anyone looking to upgrade from their standard radio etc?

Thanks for all your advice Stu...
