VAG 2.0D 140 hesitation on throttle

Featured Replies

Wasn't sure where to put this.

My Father-in-law (nearly) has a 2007 A3 2l diesel 140hp.

He's been getting an odd intermittant problem and I thought I'd ask in case anyone with an octy had experienced the same thing.

He's getting an occasional hesitation on the throttle especially after slowing down to a junction. He describes it as just getting no power to take off after stopping.

He tried running it on Vpower diesel but still gets this occasionally.

Make sense to anyone?

It's the EGR Valve.

A common problem with the 140PD's.

Sometimes it will stutter slightly on constant throttle around 70mph.

I would say common with 140bhp diesel - certainly what I see and what others have said when I raise the question. The VAG engine hesitates before the turbo kicks in. I find town driving can be interesting if you have to come off the gas and then floor it again - nothing then whooosh.

If you have a DSG then select sport as this seems to help things. Otherwise learn to drive with this "trait" and you will be ok!

Cheers for that.

I'll pass it on.

If it's driven a lot in town it may be a sooted up turbo that's stopping the variable vanes from changing pitch. Some people have had their turbo changed under warranty for this but you can buy a cleaning agent that will free it all up again.

It does a lot of very short <5miles trips during the week but they're normally out and about at the weekend for much longer.

The short journeys will certainly choke up the EGR, and will also affect the VNT. You may need to find someone local with VAG-COM to do some logging on the move.
