Hello all. Have just bought a Fabia 1.4 MPI, Y reg, 88k miles from a local dealer for £1700, which I think is a good price. Have booked it in for a service as there is a recent history gap. I was planning to ask for a cambelt change until I read somewhere on here that this engine doesn't have a cambelt!! Is this right and if so what does it have and what should I have done.

Timing chain, doesnt need changing like a cambelt.

They occasionally rattle, but not many need replacing on the 1.4 version.

Thanks for the very prompt response - one other thing, I understood from reading reviews of the Fabia that the gearshift is considered light. On mine it's what I would call 'notchy' - quite resistant moving through the gears. I don't mind this too much as it gives the feeling of solidity, however is it an indicator of problems and if so how can it be remedied?

Maybe low on oil?

Hmm...id mention it and say that it is notchy, they not usually that bad, depends what your used to i suppose...

I find the gearchange fine on mine (same model) , maybe it needs adjusting , or the clutch is getting worn?
