Octavia 1.8 TSI sport suspension or not

Featured Replies

Hello all!

I am looking to buy Octavia 1.8 TSI with 17" Pegasus alloys and I can't seem to decide whether to go with sport suspension or not. I really don't know what to expect from it? ... although i prefer more active ride, I don't want to sacrifice too much comfort ... so my question basically boils to whether to go with 17" alloys only, or to combine it with sport suspension (how firmer the ride is?)

Thanks, MiToZ

I can't comment on what car is like without but I have sports suspension on my 2.0TDi L&K with the 17" wheels.

I find the suspension a bit 'crashy' for my liking on our rubbish UK roads.

I'm sure it helps handling though as it corners quite flat.

However with 225/45 tyres fitted I'm sure there is no lack of grip available so personally I'd forego the suspension and just take the wheels if I had the option

Thanks, this is just the type of answer that I've been looking for. :) I look forward to hear from more of you :)

I have a 1.8TSI L&K without sports set up, and am glad, while I have not driven a car of the firmer suspension I think the standard ride on 17's is a touch "jiggely" at time, but well judged overall :)

I have the exact car with the sports suspension with pegasus wheels in elegance trim.

The car does feel firmer when going over bumps and is slightly noisier maybe due to the bigger wheels however it does corner far superior to my previous elegance with standard wheels and suspension.

Personally if i had a choice i would choose standard suspension due to our ****e UK roads.

Overall though Nice nippy car.

I have got the skoda sports suspension on mine, Over sprung and under damped springs to mind. Go for the standard suspension and if finances permit swap to koni FSD's and Eibachs if you wanted the handling benefits.

My Neuspeed adjustable rear ARB has made a quantifiable difference to the handling on mine.

Thanks guys, I really haven't expected so much of "to the point" answers :) I went to my dealer today and order black 1.8TSI with 17" Pegasus alloys and no sport suspensions :)

Speaking as someone with a VRs I don't consider its suspension to be harsh in anyway.

If you want to sharpen the handling without ruining the ride, once you have your car (as ordered) get a set of Koni FSDs fitted. These will do exactly this.

They do it by being 'soft' to high frequency movement i.e. over bumps, broken road surfaces etc and 'firm' to low frequency movement i.e. when braking, cornering etc. Magic :D

A rear Neuspeed anti-roll bar will help neutralise the inherent understeer of the car; it works a treat on my vRS TDI.

Good choice. Personally having drove both cars i would of ordered exactly the same motor.

Hope you dont have to wait forever to take delivery.

ps...... from 2nd gear onwards for a 1.8 goes quite quick.
