When will it stop?:grumpy:

Sorry got a bit carried away.

Mine hates V Power diesel i loose performance but with BP Ultimate diesel i gain great performance.

I've just had a strange V Power experience - here goes:

I filled up my vRS diesel with Shell V power on Saturday as all the other pumps were busy. I joined the motorway almost straight away but noticed car seemed to be running rougher than normal. When we stopped at the services (on two separate occasions) noticed a smell akin to burning rubber (could it be the DPF cleaning itself)?

By the time we got home, 400 miles later the car was definitely running and sounding rough. The next day, the exhaust emissions warning light came on. Today the DPF light came on too, accompnied by maxi dot message.

Now here's the strange bit - as the tank was getting low (low fuel light had just come on) I filled up with regular diesel. On starting up the car to leave the fuel station the emissions light had gone off. Within 2 miles the DPF light had gone off too and the car was running normally again.

Obviously lots of you have used V Power without any ill affects - so perhaps it was a contaminated batch in mine? Or could it have been co-incidence? Seems rather unlikely...

Any one have any thoughs?

Cheers

How about this as a though or two?

One of the benefits of V-Power Diesel (Petrol too) is the cleaning properties of it apart from the fact it gives you better performance/economy.

Could it be that, having run yours on 'regular' diesel for some time it was a bit gummed up and perhaps, completely coincidentally, due for a full DPF regeneration anyway. The running rough would be the cleaning process followed by the DPF having to regenerate to clean out all the soot, carbon deposits etc. Once cleaned lights go out. I doubt it would have been a contaminated batch.

Personally I have been using V-Power Diesel in my vRS TDI since it came out about 9 months ago, covering around 15,000 miles, and have had absolutely no problems with it at all.

Only question now, you having fuelled with regular again, will you be trying V-Power in the future?

I to thought that vPower was a folly, but I have over the last 2 tank fulls averaged a fairly massive 60 extra miles per tankfull over supermarket diesel with a double shot of millers.

For me it works, but my driving pattern does involve a lot of late night driving when the roads are clear and not to much commuting at all. I normally drive to the hotel and then park the car up for the week, walk everywhere and then drive home on the friday.

I have been brimming it each fill. and have been really surprised with the result.

So given i'm lazy, does that 60 mpg actually represent an improvment in economy (noting the double shot of millers and the extra price of vpower)

Reads as 60 additional miles from the tank, not 60 MPG. ;)

60 miles extra per tankfull, not 60MPG mate, I would never achieve 60MPG unless I left the motor off or found a very big hill:)

With my car's tweaked configuration, I am getting better response (but this could be a placebo) but am getting better MPG. I will try and be a bit more scientific about it on the next fill up.

Might do as experiment. Will post up here if I do!

Lol  for pete's sake both of you, allow me the grace of at least one typo! :D.

Yes, would be interested in your findings

I've previously said I didn't find premium diesel worth using in the PD105. I've changed my mind now...

Just finished my second full tank of V-Power Diesel and now 100 miles into a tank of BP Ultimate.

Indicated average mpg for the period is 63mpg, consisting of a drive to Coventry and back each week (100 miles each way) mixed with ~6 mile commutes, trips to the shops, garden centres, driving round the Peak District etc. I've previously determined an over-read of 10% +/- ~0.25% so this equates to an average of 57mpg for the period (~1400 miles)

On this mornings run down from Sheffield to Coventry I got an impressive 73mpg indicated average for the journey = 66mpg actual.

Running on standard diesel driving similiarly over a long period I was getting about 58.5 indicated / ~53 actual.

When I filled up yesterday having covered 650 miles on the last tank with a few miles left, BP Ultimate was 4p a litre or 3.3% more than standard diesel. With the current diesel prices, the percentage difference between normal and premium diesels has decreased considerably from a couple of years ago. I think it's now worth using all the time.

Performance wise, I think the difference is very small. it's very slightly smoother and pulls easier at (very) low revs and generally feels like accelerating is taking less effort.
