Shell V-Power diesel

Featured Replies

I have a Shell Drivers card. Shell have sent me some cards to get extra points if I buy V-Power Diesel.

Does anyone have any experience of using V-Power versus ordinary diesel. i.e. does the extra mpg warrant the extra cost?

I have a 140bhp II Estate and have sufficient power anyway.

Don't bother IMHO.

If you can get derv extra it's worth a go but the VPower actually reduced fuel economy on the same route when using cruise. Now that might just be down to factors such as weather, but three is no MPG increase IMHO.

I was using V Power diesel, but oddly, it made my car smoke even more, and I didnt see any justification in the extra price. I tried this a few times vs normal diesel.

I found out today that v power petrol is sh!te.

Especially when you put 30 quids worth in a fabia vrs as I did today and wondered why it stopped 2 miles later :o

I'm now the proud owner of a very Grumpy, Grumpy husband

You wonder why he is :rolleyes: and they say men can't understand women

Yeah putting the petrol in is certainly not recommended.

So it's a woman thing is it? My Mr perfect husband never does anything wrong does he

In my defence the handle on the pump was black and I was distracted by the fit albanian car washer next door :o

And Mr RAC the nice man that towed me away said men do it all the time :)

I think a fit Albanian is enough to turn most people's heads

As for ‘special’ fuels I think they are all pants imho. I have tried many forms of petrol and diesel high Octane/cetane rated fuel and I have never ever noticed any economy or mpg improvement. I sometimes wondered if the car ran slightly smoother but that’s all. I had to use octane booster in one of my previous modded turbo cars, but that was purely because the car knocked terribly without it

I'm unsure yet as to wether it makes a lot of difference. I put some in on saturday and the mpg seemed a little better on the trip down the motorway to the in laws. Car seems a little more reponse, but at 115 pence per litre it won't be going in my car very often.

It won't be going in mine either:mad:

The Mad Wife managed about 3 1/2 gallons to the mile

That works out VERY uneconomical:rolleyes:

( Awaiting bill due tomorrow... no sweeties for her this week:rofl: )

Very easy to do apparently (I believe that it's harder to put diesel in a petrol as the filler neck is narrower). Hopefully not too expensive to get fixed up and if you do a search you'll see it's quite a common thing

Apparantly, with a flush out, new filter etc, and IF it starts and runs it will be around £120.

If not, it will be an insurance job :(

it would have been better done on my car tbh, as I have protected ncd, and a lower excess.

never mind, no-one died.

The car just stalled and made a bit off a noise like when you stall it in gear if you know what I mean

I only had 20 miles driving left on the clock so I filled it with the wrong stuff, Grumpy was not a happy bunny with me and the smelly stuff hit the fan, Thank god it was my car and not his :o

Back on topic;

I have used V-Power Diesel for the last 12,000 miles in my car and recently with a double dose of Millers DieselSport 4. I have no ill effects and I'm sure it gives me a 'stronger' and 'sweeter' running engine.

On a before/after basis I get 1 - 2mpg better with the V-power + Millers so probably it is hard to justify their use on a cost basis.

However; on the recent JKM Rolling Road day I posted plus 20bhp on standard that I reckon was plus 10-12bhp as a result of a K&N 57i air intake and plus 8-10bhp for the V-Power+Millers.

You pays your money and you takes your choice! :D

And so it becomes clear

FWIW there is the totalled fabia SE in a thread somewhere and the owner was IIRC looking at buy back. If that is the case there is a whole engine plus injectors/pump in there that you might be able to buy at a fair price.

On the previous JKM RR day I posted 25bhp more than standard on a standard car. I think it had approximately 0bhp to do with the normal shell derv, 0bhp to do with the 10k miles old air filter in there and 25bhp to do with manufacture tolerances and inaccuracies in the RR.

Don't forget that the whole RR result is based on a calculation assuming certain things about the transmission which may not be true.

£1.16!!!!!!

Couldn't believe it this morning when I saw the price .

(I was filling up at the cheaper petrol V power which was 'only' about £1.10 and yes,I do have a petrol car:D)

Can't say about v-power however bp ultimate did make the 2.5 v6 run even smoother. Ran on that for about a year, and each time going back to normal it was noisier. Pick up from low revs was noticeably better with the bp ultimate.

Haven't tried anything in the 1.9tdi yet. From most reports it's not worth it with that engine.

Our bog standard shell diesel is 115.9ppl now

gonna have to start diluting it soon

Found the same with my recent Golf... seemed a tad more responsive but there was a noticable amount of the black stuff when I put my foot down, even with Millers added...

I'd stick to Extra and a dose of Millers
