Sub under the seat, will it work?

Featured Replies

Hey peeps

I am a little upset with the lack of base and average sound quality in my Skoda Octavia VRS. I have upgraded the head unit to a nice Pioneer DEH-P75BT. I really would like to install a sub/amp combi unit underneath one of the front seats but looking at the dimensions, it looks near impossible :o( I have been looking at something like this: -

Boss Audio BASS600 Subwoofer Enclosures

I know it's an American website but you can pick one up on ebay for £80 or something very similar......What do you think, any of you managed to get something like this under the seats or installed something similar in a space saving part of the car?! I really don't want a huge 10/12" sub and separate amp in the boot, my boy racer days are over!

PS - Just something else, can anyone recommend good speakers for the car, 17cm's for the front and 13cm's in the rear - Will this affect the tweeters etc, I just want good base!!

Thanks in advance

Alex

Welcome to briskoda.I dont think it will fit under the seat due to the center rail design on the seat.If you want speakers for the front its easier to buy shallow mounts due to the design of the door .Fit sound deadening to the doors and this improves the front speakers.Use the search function theres lots about this subject

the sub also needs space as it needs air to push thus bass boxes.

I wouldn't like to comment on something that I haven't heard, but I would seriously doubt if that mini-sub would do the job. I notice in the reviews of it that one guy likes it so much he's going to buy another one when he saves up!

Read between the lines on that one!

I have 6.5" Rockford Audiophile speakers in the front of mine, which put out much more mid-bass than the standard speakers. In the interest of sound quality and an acceptable sound stage, the rear speakers are disconnected.

To get a big improvement in the sound of the new front speakers you will really need to fit a new amp anyway, so if you bought a 4 channel and used 2 ch. for the fronts and the other 2 channels bridged to mono for the bass, you are halfway there! An 8" sub in a small enclosure in the boot would guarantee an improvement over what you have now, whereas buying that mini-sub from the US would be a gamble.

Why don't you upgrade your front speakers before making a decision on improving the bass? And don't be fooled into thinking that a 10" sub and amp. in the boot is only for boy-racers.............. it's primarily there to give just the kind of bass that you are looking for!

Good luck whatever you decide to do...
