how is bhp determined????

Featured Replies

I was wondering how you determine the bhp when looking at a dyno graph?? Is it the clutch max power or just the max power I say my bhp is?? Check the graph for example to let me know. thanks.

Presumably the lower graph is the measured power at the wheels and the top graph is the "calculated/guessed" power at the flywheel. Manufacturers quote power at the flywheel, but they measure it directly on a bench dyno so it is accurate.

where did you get this dyno graph from mate?

I get it, from Awesome GTI website.

the graph is with a pd160 and green filter so can you say its given an 10bhp increase and say it 140bhp. Just wanted to know how it all works...

yep it's mine, also wondered about that, may be it would look different on different roller. But I was thinking you could declare the lower BHP for insurance since it is power "at the wheel"

Thats why i asked the question as I wasnt sure if car manufacturers claim the lower bhp for insurance purposes.. Glad I know now and you can say yours is about 140bhp  (and mine as i have the pd160 and green filter)

You'd really need a before and after to see the effect of it, but the figure the insurance will be interested in are the flywheel figures as that's what the manufacturer quotes....

Chris

Insurance is interested in increase in BHP from before manufacturers figures. At that point you would need before and after runs.
