Help - Octy HU woes!

Featured Replies

Howdy - need a hand may have ^&%$%£$ed things up!

Got a new headunit for my mk1 vrs. Read up about the wire swap stuff, k wire etc - bought an fm amplifier thingy and went at it today. Swapped the wires around on my new steroes ISO plug, checked the k wire was not being fed 12v then went looking for a power source for the antenna. Saw that pin 5 on the car side ISO was being hooked up to 'auto antenna' on the HU side and thought best move was to unplug the red/white wire on the car side...tape it up and replace it with the blue wire from the fm booster. That all seemed logical to me anyway...

Only thing is I didn't bother disconnected the battery and managed to ground the red/white wire and got a spark. Went ahead with the instal anyway but now my new headunit is not powering on. can anyone suggest what I've done and how to fix? Likely to be a fuse (please say yes!)

Any help much appreciated!

Yes I'd check the fuse.

Cheers - was the fuse. Now swapped with the cig lighter one temporarily and up and running. Only problem is ...airbag warning on dash. Had the glovebox out to do my head unit ...is there a chance I've disconnected something by accident? (have done a search but can't seem to find out what triggers the light???)

Did you unplug anything? Do you have airbag deactivation switch?

Sorry I couldnt resist it. Like Stu says do you have airbag deactivation?

Lol deserved! its a fair cop (and I haven't even had the guts to tell the full story). Believe it or not I read up on this for a few days before hand christ knows how bad it could have been!

Anyway...no airbag deactivation switch. When the glovebox was off I did see a connector hanging down behind it but the glovebox came away with no resistance at all so I thought it must have been for the switch...if I had one.

Unsurprisingly...I'm stumped???

I'll take mockery and assistance in equal measure if need be :)

Airbag connectors are normally yellow - does that help?

The connector behind the glovebox was grey and kinda anchor shaped(!??) Is it possible to mess up the airbag connection when pulling through the ICE stuff to make space for the HU? Also I did have some 'issues' with the fusebox can any of those have a bearing on the warning light?

Cheers

Ok so from what I've read that airbag warning isn't fuse dependant...so the question is what the hell have I borked when putting this bloody stereo in? If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears...

As long as the fuse you pulled wasn't airbag one it shouldn't be an issue.

Swapped the cig lighter one for the bust one. One other thing though...when I was searching for the knaackered fuse I put one of the fuses in the top section of the box back in the wrong place and lost dash illumination and the car wouldnt run (started but cut out). Sorted that and all apppeared to be well..except this warning light. There I've confessed all now..feel much better :)

Ahh see you could have saved us all a lot of time and effort. Honesty is the best policy.

Sounds like it may well reset via diagnostics.
