Hill Hold Control

Featured Replies

Been reading this old thread: http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-ii/hill-hold-vrs/80775/

And picked up on the fact that in there someone says that when engaged "HOLD" will appear on Maxidot. But on my Scout nothing appears... Anybody else have this message on Maxidot?

Also does anybody know if it can be made more sensitive (VAG-Com or Dealer adjust)? At the moment it will only engage on steepish hills, but ideally I'd like it to work whenever the car is stopped on an incline...

I've not noticed the maxidot say anything when hill hold is in operation. I agree with the sensitivity - I'm surprised at some of the hills that hill hold doesn't come in but I can live with it.

I wonder what technology is used to determine the hill hold - some sort of mercury switch maybe?

I'm pretty sure that in my manual it said that Hill Hold Control only worked on an incline of 5 degrees or more.

But.... I think you have to have properly stopped for it to work. Briefly stopping on a steep hill to turn at a junction e.g rolling to a standstill whilst changing from 2nd to 1st without taking your foot off the clutch inbetween and then moving off again doesn't seem to trigger it. Whereas stopping for a few seconds in neutral and then engaging first seems to bring it in to play.

im still trying to work out if mine has it or if its even working. is there away of checking it with vag com?

I think it's great. Makes uphill traffic much more tolerable.

And yes, it does catch you out sometimes, you assume it will hold on a gentle hill and it doesn't. The end result is you roll back like a learner

It might be done via the ESP - there is a yaw sensor and a lateral accelerometer in there somewhere.

L&K and Scout are the only models to have it AFAIK.

Another pointless feature IMO - just like parking sensors.

Not at all - on both counts.

I don't agree. I wouldn't pay for them as extras and I wouldn't use them if they were included with the car. Therefore completely pointless.

They both happened to be standard on the car I have and I wouldn't do without them now.

Horses for courses and all that.
